I'm not clear on one point though. He says the only reason 606 was changed to 607 was to keep the 1914 date. But that seems back to front. Why was it 606 in the first place? I'm confused.

99% of witnesses would NOT know how to do the mental gymnastics to explain 1914 to people. And that is what the GB counts on - "Just believe it because we tell you its true"

The ending observation and conclusion is that those 19th century Charlatans, including C T Russell, thought they had something of noteworthy value to market and it would be assumed that they themselves may have gotten caught up in these theological ideas of Christ returning etc.
Russell further supported his own acquired dates and calculations by using Pyramidology, something Cedars didn't mention in his video.
C T Russell was not a academically trained bible theologian, he extrapolated ideas from others, some he discarded and some he embellished himself .
Nevertheless that is how and what the Watchtower Publishing house was founded on and carried itself since the late 1800's, One might describe as an endeavor of amateur bible theology fused with hyped speculation and a drive to sell literature.
The WTS became richer and self empowered a few men who were personally avowed to keep this publishing operation in growing continuance.

Witnesses don't care about 607. That is true . Because it means nothing in their mind. I similarly never gave the date any thought as it was just a date witnesses said and I said whatever.
However! 1914 is a date witnesses have a fervor and veneration for in a near idolatrous level. And the key (whether they know it or not) is a lie that is 607.
It's about 1914 and them lying blatantly for over a century. So yes and no. They don't care about the date but I don't think they know it's fabricated. Some witnesses need to learn it to know they are being lied to.

The main reason that most Christian based faiths didn't come up with 1914 and of its supposed significance is that they take it to heart and obedience of what Jesus's own instruction for this true followers to not set a time on god's own sacred time.
Their position is one to faithfully expect all and every day the reestablishment and return.
The thing with the WTS is that since this organization heavily promoted this dating calculation for such a long stretch of time, to denounce it would really put the emphasis that the WTS is a false teacher and would potentially ruin their self adoration of being pure and true, chosen by god himself.
That's why the WTS has been trying to uphold this date so vehemently, such as creating a unscriptural supported doctrine of an overlapping "This" generation.The WTS may have sold millions pieces of literature by using this dating calculation but they also painted themselves into a corner.
How do they keep things going ? they lie or stop preaching it or at least until its body of members forget about 1914. They are gambling right now that this newly concocted overlapping generation is going to cover themselves.
