Do You Know Of Reasons Why Some Got Removed From Their Privileges?

My father-in-law was removed as an Elder because his wife had her "tubes tied" after they had their 8th child. Apparently, someone found and and was "stumbled". He was appointed an Elder again after a year.

Its a shame they didnt remove his elder-dom when he was punching, kicking and screaming at my wife on a daily basis when she was a teenager....

I was removed as Account Servant and from sound because I was taking computer courses on Saturdays. It was considered a bad example for the young ones, who were encouraged to pioneer rather than pursue worldly careers.

The two examples above certainly show again the arbitrary and non-scriptural nature of many such proceedings.

Here's a guy who gets removed because his wife gets her tubes tied, and yet not for physically and verbally abusing his daughter?

And the example from iiz2cool shows again the ridiculous nature of some of the reasons these guys come up with. It's amazing they have anybody left to serve in some of these places.

    Welcome, Santiago.

I know of a similar case. Two weeks after being announced as an elder came the announcement that this same brother was being publicly reproved and was removed as an elder. I found out later that he fell off the fidelity wagon. His wife eventually forgave him and he is a regular publisher with privledges restored for answering and giving talks again.

The inconsistency of removals verses the crime committed(or not committed) lends one to wonder, "just where is the holy spirit in directing who should or should not be appointed". Some are removed that should be. Some are not. Some are appointed that shouldn't be. Some should step down but don't. Wouldn't the holy spirit detect that and see to it that the removal happens anyway?

I was an MS on more than one occasion. When the elders came to me to say that I have been appointed and they asked, "Is there any reason why you can't accept this appointment", I lied and said, "No." As a young, unmarried man, I of course masturbated, to both porn mags and movies. I also liked to drink. Not to drunkeness, but enough that I would not be a shining example to other young people in the congregation. Apparently this was ok with the holy spirit if it saw fit that the GB, CO and my elders could appoint me.

My father was stepped down as an elder because he rented his old house to another JW. This JW spread around to everyone that my dad was cheating him, and took it to the elders. The elders sided with my dad saying that this JW had no proof that my dad was cheating him, but they stepped him down anyway because everyone would think badly of the elders if they didn't do ANYTHING, because so many had heard the false story. GOTTA LOVE POLITICS IN JEHOVAH"S ORGANIZATION!!!

My older brother was about 14 and had been playing the piano for the meetings since he was about 11. One day at the end of the Sunday meeting my mother was called to the front of the hall to meet with a couple elders. They informed her that my brother would no longer be allowed this "privilege" because his hair was too long (1977-height of the John Travolta/Saturday Night Fever craze-my brother was in the thick of it). While disappointed, she remained calm and only let a few tears out as she walked the three of us out of the hall and drove us home. My brother did not care in the least. He hated playing the songs, even though he was great at it. My mother was humiliated, embarrassed and confused as to why they didn't give my brother a bit of a warning that his hair style was too "worldly" so that he could do something about it (not that he would have-the hair battle raged in our home until he moved out at 18). A few weeks later, I was playing with some neighborhood witness kids, and an elder's son was in the bunch. If I was ten, then he had to be no more than 7 or 8. As elders' son are wont to do, he was making himself out to be a "better witness" than the rest of us. He went so far as to call into question the families of the other witness kids that were with us. Then he told everyone what his father said the elders said about each of the families. His meanest comment came when he asked me why I thought my mom was crying after her elders' meeting a few weeks earlier. I told him it was because my brother wasn't going to play piano anymore. And he said, "yeah, I know, but I do you know why?" I told him sure, because my brother's hair was too long. "Nope" he replied. "My dad told us at dinner that night that the real reason your brother can't play piano anymore is because the elders heard he smokes pot." Everyone heard this little twit say this and we all raced to my house to tell my mom. My mom was furious, on so many levels, but couldn't do a thing about it, since my dad was not a witness, and there was no one to back her up in bringing the elder with big flapping mouth to justice. JR (we'll call him JR, since that's what we called him) never even got in trouble for blabbing to the neighborhood kids like he did. Not only was he wrongly privy to confidential elder matters, but he was informed that the elders had lied to my mother about the reason. The only reason I can think of for why they lied to her was that the reason they knew about my brother's pot smoking was because some other "important" kid in the congregation was smoking with my brother, and they wanted to keep that covered up. This was my first, in the face, irrefutable example of hypocrisy I experienced in the congregation, my mother's too. Too bad she is completely brain washed. She never got a straight answer as to why they lied to her-or with held critical information about her minor child.

LaCapra, when I 1st started reading your comments, I said to myself, "The elders must've had a reason for yanking his privleges. They just didn't want to say." That sounds just like a bunch that want to protect their own.

    LaCapra,

I know MS and others who where bashed because they shaved their head.

They said they were trying to imitate Micheal Jordan. This is also like a year ago.

I was appalled. These were 30 something year old grown men who were going bald and decided not to do the "swoop over" thing.

    Give me a break.

Just makes you appreciate Jesus more... "He will not judge on the mear appearance of the eyes."

there was an MS brother in our hall, who had his priviledges removed after he spent one month in jail for beating his wife and putting her in the hospital, until he was granted a bail of $25,000.

then he got one year in jail, with two years probation to follow, but due to the jail's being so full, etc, he was put on an electronic bracelet with house arrest

    ]he never was disfellowshipped.

i know this for a fact as he is my x husband and we were married for 25 years.:(

No removal for "tubes" here - so rules ain't so universal after all .....

A friend had a skin desase, so he couldn't stand the cold winter weather. He'd grow a beard during the winter months. So every December, he was removed, and every April, he was reinstalled. No joke. A true "summer elder".
