I think Simon's posting privilages should be revoked!!

Just kidding! Actually, I've been blissfully unaware of any untoward remarks by Simon, and lately by anyone else for that matter. Ignorance is bliss, and I sure have been ignorant.

    Did I just insult myself?

Simon, you're only doing what comes naturally on a discussion board.

There's some things that all of us will never agreee with each other about. I'm sorry too, because I get pretty passionate on a few subjects too. So if I myself offended anyone on a recent debate I'm also sorry.

Like I've said before, the one thing we can all enjoy together here even during intense disagreements is the fact that we no longer have the Empire stifling all independent thought.

    Mike.

    My two cents:

It wasnt the war issue the only thing that got me and others upset. It was the constant name calling, that went unchecked, while our comments were checked. Hell, one dude was tossed off here AFTER he said he was leaving... tossed because of his comment about simon on my own site. Seems awful wierd to me.

Apologies go both ways, it just depends on who starts the apology. I am owed none by simon, but I do think simon should consider handing a few out to others. So should Trauma Hound .... and others. Just saying "Y'all come on back" isnt an apology.

No it isn't, but if everyone starts pointing fingers on who owes who an apology NOTHING will be settled. The point is we need to move on.

    Ok, a few things:

I have reactivated Dakota Red's account who I'm pretty sure was the only one dactivated over the war, if he wants to come back it's up to him.

I don't see any value in going back over the why's and how's of who said what. Things were said by lots of people on both sides and both see the other side as being unreasonable. Until things are dropped then we won't move on.

Contrary to what some people are trying to suggest (elsewhere) LB is not and never has been deleted. His leaving was his choice and to be honest a complete surprise as he'd PM'd me just days before thanking me for being able to debate things in a civil way. Again, it's up to him if he choses to post here.

I have already apologised for hurt feelings I may have caused, I am not apologising for my opinions which I hold to. Many people have posted a lot worse and I haven't seen any effort from them to improve things.

Most deactivations are already really suspensions as few are permanent. Quite a few people who have at some point been deactivated have come back. It's usually up to them,

There will not be any blanket amnesty. Certain people have shown an unbelievable level of vitriol with malicious lies and they will not be welcomed back here under any circumstances as I don't believe they would do anything but try to stir up trouble and to be honest, I think the forum is much nicer without them.

    Simon,

I am a Moderator at another ex-jw site. I can understand where you are coming from. I try to stay objective as much as I can, but I don't always succeed. I am human after all even if I try to keep all my personal thoughts in check. I know what you mean Simon.

    Simon,

I think that we all accept that there will be a few people who wouldn't be covered by such an amnesty. I do recall that last time I put forward such an idea, another person went absolutely apeshit in appalling lies and accusations against yourself in an effort to sabotage such a move. There was also the other saga where someone tried to get at you via lies to your missus which left everyone shocked with disbelief. So, no, none of us expect an amnesty for those one's unless they make a public apology at the very least.

The people that I have in mind are the one's who have posted amicably and then left in a fit of pique, or felt that they were being patriotic or are just being downright ornery. As you yourself has said, you can't recall what insult someone posted a week ago because it's no longer of great importance. Most of us know that you don't hold a grudge, it's only when mega-damage is being attempted that you dig your heels in. I would make a decision on whether or not a poster could be part of such an amnesty to be based on whether or not that poster has told continual lies (as opposed to sour grape grumpiness) about you personally.

If you were to blanket amnesty everyone and then re-delete the very few that you felt were just out to be vicious at any price, you could then operate a suspension period to deal with any of the more serious sagas that might occur.

This is my proposal and I commend it to the House! (Only Brits will understand that bit)

That's reasonable Eman but it's hard to do a blanket amnesty across the board as there are some accounts that were deleted because they were duplicates, at the users request, for posting porn etc ... and I would not want to reactivate absolutely everyone. I don't keep any log of why everyone is deleted unfortunately.

I've already re-activated Dakota Red's account and unless I'm mistaken, that was the only one I deactivated during "the war months".

I've also re-activated RubyTuesday but she did claim that she posted what she did because she wanted to be deleted so I'm not sure whether she wants to post here or not. It's up to her.

There are only a few people (I'm sure I don't have to name them) that I would not want back here but most people are welcome to come back and if their acounts are deactivated and they'd like them enabled, they should email me ([email protected])

If people do decide to come back, they should know that I do not hold grudges but by the same token don't expect them to rake up old arguments.
