I love all sorts of music. I think different people have different opinions of heavy metal. Some would say that Def Leppard is heavy metal, and if that is the case, then vote me in.

I tend to refer to heavy metal as the non-melodic music of hard core bands. I can appreciate most music, but much of that is just crap.

But, back to the question, is even the most nasty soundy metal music demonic?? I think it really depends on who is playing it, and what the lyrics are. If the musician is known for being anti-God or a devil worshiper, I would believe that music would reflect his beliefs, and would not be something I would choose to listen to.

    No way !

Even when I was in , I did not buy that Bull****** which they pinched from other fundy right wing nuts in the U.S.

I was the Watchtower overseer and once had to invent an excuse to visit a relative on the week that the study was an illinformed badly written slamming of Heavy Rock Music. ..

Some of the hardest stuff is in very poor taste. Some is just not very good - But Demonised? No .

Demons get blamed for everything that those in charge dont like.

(in best Hannibal Lecter voice) "No no no no!"

Of course, those who shepherd control the flock would write off anything that does not fit in with their narrow-minded view of things as "evil", "demonic" and "satanic"

Of course, when it comes things like teen sucides and the columbine tragedy a few years back, people are always ready to scapegoat certain artists as the cause, rather than the real roots of the problem (such as social alienation, family troubles, the easy access of guns etc)

Has anyone here heared the new Marilyn Manson album ("Golden age of the grotesque")? I bought it on sunday, and it's all I've listened to the past few days. Songs like "This is the new s**t", "Kaboom-Kaboom", "Doll dugga buzz buzz ziggety zag" and most of all, "Vodevil" have made me pick up my guitar again........

According to virtually ALL fundamentalist, high-control cultists, damn near everything they don't like is demonized. It's your fer shore notification that you're dealing with dishonest people.

Instead of "Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom," the WT banner should say "The beatings will continue until moral improves."

No, for the most part I don't think metal is demonized. However, there are a few bands that admidt to worshiping satan, and I would avoid listening to that music. I love to rock on to Pantera, Godsmack, AC/DC, Disturbed, Megadeth and the ever classic Guns N' Roses. I do feel music can influence people. I get the best charge working out to metal; however, don't feel the need to go and smash someone's head in after listening to it....

    Nah!

Geez, even during that retarded blitz the JWs implimented back in the late 70s and early 80s, you know - all that demonized music etc., but geez...what options did we have?

KINGDUMB MELODIES - ok, so someone hand me a vomit bag .

It's funny, all the urban myths you'd hear @ the Kingdom Hall re: various musical artists, and now that I am no longer of that ilk (ICK!), you do some research on some of these bands/musicians and they had the MOST positive messages and wanted to: do-the-right-thing.

Lyrically, one can decipher the words of heavy metal. Sometimes cacaphony of guitars and double-kick drums help convey the message the way it was meant to be delivered.

Gimme: Quiet Riot, Iron Maiden and Sepultura...(the list goes on)

Heavy metal is merely an art form, consisting of electric guitars and drums. That's just sound. Nothing about that is demonic as far as I'm concerned.

But, with any music, it all depends on the lyrics and possibly what the bands performing the music are into. I've seen heavy metal albums with incredible amounts of pagan or satanic imagery. And that goes for more than cover art, it's also be in the songs.

I personally believe in a God and a Satan. Who's to say what could be "satanic"? Is encouraging non-biblical values satanic? I know I'm probably going to come off sounding pretty "fundie" here - and I'm really not - but, lots of things could be considered demonic. If you assume there is a Satan, does he need to turn you into an all-out worshiper of evil, or just turn you away from God? Could an ad for an SUV or some other luxury be used to make you lust after material things and turn away from spiritual things? Could credit card debt be a tool to make you worry and stressed and work more hours? Does Harry Potter condition you to be OK with witches and spells?

Hey, I'm not saying you're going to turn into a satan worshipper and hurt people for doing any of these things. It's all in how it affects you and how you view these things. I think it's a matter of conscience. And I do listen to old heavy metal (not too into speed metal), I do get caught up by advertising for luxuries, and I did enjoy Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. And I've even been to things at a Pagan community center where many people are into spiritism (though I'll admit it did make me feel uncomfortable). Yet I still believe in God and don't feel those things have altered my faith..

Your own belief is all that counts or influences you being affected. If you believe that it is demonized and will hurt you, then it will. I've been out for 4 years now and all the "Predictions" regarding art, music, pornography, etc. that the Borg made have affected me not in the least, and I have done some exploring. MY SO is a HUGE Ozzie fan and we are attending Ozzfest this summer, and I can't wait! The only concern I have is for those elements in the crowd who have a certain mind set or belief system and will thus be adversely affected and will act out accordingly. No one can control your mind if you don't want them to.
