Well if you want to go back in time (I'll do it now if you like), the Society used to hate the Beatles. Especially when they first became really popular in 1964. That evil rocking and rolling.

Pleasuredome : I can only speculate

    From the Jehovahkill Album

    The Subtle Energies Commission
    Julian Cope

Out there is the high society
Out there where they generate loneliness
Out there where they venerate piety
In here are the destiny angels
Of duty bound to be risen
    Our high-society's wit and grace
    Deliver us from our prison

No Hard Shoulder to Cry On
    Julian Cope

    I'm drivin' and I can't even drive
I'm drivin' uninsured and my father says that it's wrong.
But I lost my will, my will to survive
I gave it up for love, and love is surely gone.
The tears in my eyes a tidle wave
and in my head they come again and again and again.
All my seas convect into the clouds

And I can not pull over, yes there is no hard shoulder to cry on.

Well I'm trying to be meek but I won't inherit a thingWhy I'm so hung up on reason and denial
I love, I love but it's getting me nowwhere
Yeah I need security but I hate safety.

And this world doesh require a Gaelish day
and this world will not tolerate my feelings
And I cannot pull over, yes there is no hard shoulder to cry on x2

    To cry on
    To cry on
    etc etc…

Some people lead their lives on trusting to luck
Some people base their lives on a questionable fuck
    Money's on a winner
Yeah, the single most cataclysmic intrusion of the Holy Ghost

When will I get what I get to keep?
Keep sweeping sister, go back to sleep
Sleep in the doorway of Daddyo's house
Yeah, shivring, shivering, quiet as a mouse
    Quiet as a mouse
Walks up to me, makes the sign of the cross
She says "Julian H. Cope, you're a real dead loss"

Slave to the slaver in hollering dark
Woke up in the fireplace, slept like a log
Keep sweeping sister 'till the brush comes apart
But just remember, women aren't supposed to fart
Who's wearing badges, yeah, who's making love?
Who is receiving from up above?
Talking in a whisper, yeah, speaking in tongues
    Speaking of the Devil
    , yeah, here he comes
Badges, badges, we don't need no stinking badges!
Sissified, you're civilised, I wanna be a savage!
I wanna be the righteousest son of man
You know, I wanna be the pauper of the whole darn clan
Walks up to me, makes the sign of the cross
She says "Julian H. Cope, you're a real dead loss"

    As for specific songs....

I remember that as a young girl I wasn't suppose to listen to "Joy to the World" (you know, "Jerimiah was a bullfrog. He was a good friend of mine...etc.) "Cause that song was saying Joy to this old system of things. Yeah rigghttt

And don't forget "Puff, the Magic Dragon" or "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds". SHAME to anyone caught humming those. They were all about DRUGS!!!!

sitting here giggling and singing, ~Bobbi

Julian Cope's: JEHOVAH KILL album, is excellent!

I have it, and I have listened to it hundreds of times.

It seems that any music that was not associated with the Kingdom Melodies, it was deemed 'evil' or possibly inspired by 'Satan'.

When that backwards masking crap came out back in the early 1980s, so many brothers/sisters got rid of their records.

I remember being out in service with older brothers/sisters, and they'd have on classical music or easy-listening stations or...um...you guessed it, Kingdom Melody tapes. Ugh!

Does anyone remember the terrifying stories about "Earth Wind and Fire"????

---> jw urban legend: Earth Wind & Fire would ask any jehovah's witnesses in the audience during live performances to LEAVE THE ARENA. The stage show contained DEMONIC - POWERED stunts!!! If any jw's were there, the magic stuff wouldn't happen.

    Great 80's funk band...

Also, a friend of mine had to toss all of his Pink Floyd before they would appoint him as an elder.... (wish I'd been around on trash day for THAT....)

I was told Tori Amos was baaad because of this song:

    "Father Lucifer"

    Father Lucifer
    You never looked so sane
You always did prefer the drizzle to the rain
Tell me that you're still in love with that Milkmaid
    How's the Lizzies
How's your Jesus christ been hanging

Nothings gonna stop me from floating
Nothings gonna stop me from floating

He says he reckons I'm a watercolour stain
He says I run and then I run from him
    And then I run
    He didn't see me watching
    From the aeroplane
    He wiped a tear
And then he threw away our appleseed

Nothings gonna stop me from floating
Nothings gonna stop me from floating

    Everyday's my wedding day
Though baby's still in his comatose state
I'll die my own Easter eggs
    Don't go yet
    Just don't go
And Beenie lost the sunset but that's OK
Does Joe bring flowers to Marilyn's grave
And girls that eat pizza and never gain weight
    Never gain weight
    Never gain weight
Father Lucifer you never looked so sane
You always did prefer the drizzle to the rain
Tell me that you're still in love with that milkmaid
    How's the Lizzies
How's your Jesus Chirst been hanging

My best friend and I burned our Boys for Pele CDs, and I stopped listening to Tori for a couple years.

A work aquaintence of mine told me that she went to a concert by "Earth Wind and Fire" (remember them?) about 20 years back, and get this, she said they asked if any JWs were in the audience and if so could they leave..... ok I'm just repeating what she told me. Shame, I always liked Boogie Wonderland!!

I recall endless Service meetings that condemned "necking", short skirts and this fella in particular:

Also our national anthem, Amazing Grace, and America the Beautiful were too patriotic to be sung. I also got lectured for my Nirvana album and had a friend tell me after playing her Rob Zombie CD she woke up in the middle of the night because she heard whispers coming from her closet door....

I say rock on to Pantera, old school Metallica, Godsmack, Static X, Fear Factory, Hatebreed and Mudvayne baby!!!! Thank goodness for my freedom from that cult!! WOOOO-HOOOOO!!!!
