Dragons are on the same level of belief as aliens, bigfoot and New Jersey Devils and such. Can't really be proven, yet though.

Sometimes I wonder that the fossils dug-up is what substantiates theories about dragons and such.

Simplest explanation is usually the right one.
Any pre-industral human being who found a fossilized dino skull (particularly a theropod) would have immediately thought it was a dragon.
Frankly, it would have been weird if he hadn't.
