COs are such a heavy burden on the congs! I mean they get all their needs/expenses covered by the cong they visit that week. Their fancy food shopping at health stores is not cheap, among many other stuff.

It would be refreshing to have them work at least a part-time gig to help with their upkeep. If this transpired, one would see quite a few quit. They enjoy a bit much their rock star status and the endless 'green' handshakes.

    Wishful thinking for now!

CO's are the ones that keep tabs on the accounting of each Kingdom Hall. That's the first thing they do when they visit the Hall. Meet with the PO or as they are called now Coordinator and check the financial books to see how much money they are collecting in contributions. So they may cut the CO force, but they will always have some of them working to keep a tight grip on the money being donated.

They are like the IRS auditors who make sure the TAX is being paid.

At least that's what the CO's use to tell me when I was the PO.

Maybe the CO's and COW's will finally come to appreciate franks and beans. It beats the hell out of starving. No more "special" meals!

It's all about the money Lebowski!!!

I used to practice the 'green' handshake. One of the many practices ceased since learning TTATT. I know my gullible hubby, hardcore JW, does the 'green' handshake thing every time the CO shows up.

Oh, and another thing, during the assemblies at the elders' meeting there is a collection of money to cover the Society invited speaker's expenses, travel and all. Crazy!!!

if you think some of the local elders are arrogant, wait until the COs would be removed, and COs controlling the finances, former CO: "when checking the records, if the contributions are up to par, the congregation's spirituality is ok too, the visit will be good". goody.

there is no reason a CO can't be an elder from a local congregation. I've seen this many times.

    @PoN

That's what the HQ discussed with Spanish speaking Branch reps. A sort of City Overseer / Region Overseer arrangement. The info was leaked before everything had coalesced into the current situation with letting the DO's go and making the CO's have more responsibilities.

Good idea!! A "composite" Circuit Overseer Body! Like the Governing Body, a "composite." Seven would be plenty for a local Circuit Overseer Body, more if they need "helpers."

It used to be an average of 20 congregations per circuit. That's about 5,770 Circuit Overseers worldwide possibly now . Would save the circuits a lot of money maybe? Maybe not, these would soon be getting "green handshakes" too.

If they reorg more congergations into one, the less CO supervision would be needed...

I predict that the number of circuit overseers will be reduced and C.O. visits will become less frequent - maybe once per year instead of twice.

Take two circuits and make it one. So now 40 congs. Lose 10/20% in amalgamations and KH sales and you are down to 32 - 36. Let's say 34. So 40 - 34 = 6 congs less. So 6 x 2 visits per year saved = 12 weeks of CO time.

Now ... CO visits one a year and a sub-co (from a pool of say half a dozen) does the other visit. The saved 12 weeks can be used for extra circuit assemblies as the new super-circuit won't fit into the assembly hall so easily. They can also be used for trouble shooting so that the CO might make two visits per year to "trouble-making" congs that need "specialised shepherding" (tm).

So CO's halved, CO apartments halved, CO cars halved, CO wives halved, CO wages and medical halved.
