Most if not all end-times groups latch onto any seemingly outstanding unique to prove their beliefs.
But their Leader Jesus says:

They are anxious to see a "sign" that will continue to convince them of all the JW End of World nonsense. All JWs know that "something is wrong". The overlapping generation thing is ridiculous and they know it. All their loved ones (parents, spouses, friends) who were supposed to live right on into Paradise are dead or dying of old age. They know "something is wrong". This is NOT what we were promised and what we were told to believe.
So yes, they do not need any "push" to jump onto everything as a sign that they are still right (just maybe). Above all else, they are doing their best to convince themselves. . . . Doc

I’ve been thinking about projection more and more lately. Sometimes people mentally project onto external events, objects or people qualities that are simply within the mind. Those who are indoctrinated project their indoctrination and everything can be a sign.
Like the weather facilitating the printing of the Revised NWT (never mind the printing mistake in the header of Numbers). Or a hurricane delivering needed sand (never mind those people and homes destroyed). Or how about those evil mentally diseased “apostates” (never mind they are just normal people who just happen to not share JW beliefs anymore).
Of course, I’ve noticed this as well in some “apostates” when it comes to projecting on the organization any number of wild conspiracy theories.

The basic core doctrine of the WTS/JWS is that Christ has returned invisibly (1914) and that mankind is now living in the End Times or This Generation spoken by Jesus himself.
From out that doctrine the WTS has propagated that world events such as wars Earthquakes are signs that we certainly are living in the end times.
These propagations help in attracting attention to the literature the WTS publishes and are strategically used to allure people to those publication.
People get interested in whats being written and some end up being sales representatives for the WTS themselves, kind of a tactic of exploitation and mental manipulation.
