I have always been a Mr. Fixit. I work as an Automotice Technician but also have been a Helicopter Mechanic/Crew Chief; Heavy Equipment Assembler and Service Manager. In addition, since I am known to be a bit cheap, I also do most all repairs and repainting around the house. When the exwife and her kids were here, they would tear up the washer and dryer as fast as I could repair them. If I had to pay a repairman everytime, I would have gone broke. I have to do my own plumbing repairs, electrical repairs, some carpentry and yard work. I really like refinishing furniture. LOL, I even r eupholstered some years ago. Once, between jobs as a mechanic, I worked with a friend helping him remodel homes, lay brick driveways and dabbled a bit in locksmithing.

The main reason I do as much as I can for myself, besides saving money, is that I get a real sense of satisfaction from working with my hands. What has really made me feel appreciated at work is when I have gotten phone calls from the District Tech Rep asking me my opinion on a problem car at another dealer.

The one main thing to watch for, though, is to know when you are getting in over your head and back off and contact a professional if it is more than you can handle.
