Many are leaving the historical christian faith without even realizing it. Maybe they've never read the NT or something but they sure delight in taking these people's word for what it says.

With all of the different sects that formed the early Christian Faith that begs some serious questions.

Society is progressing. We have experienced a rights revolution. Condemning people because of their sex, race or sexuality is no longer acceptable to rational people.

Just like Islam, conservative christians have bound themsleves to the ramblings of an ancient book, written by pre-scientific goat herders, whose morals would shame an Afghan warlord.

Education is the silver bullet. Once you read literature and science and history you see the world from new perspectives. It's less likely young people will then go on ordering their lives around moribund dogma and superstition.

This is why JWs fear higher education and born-agains favour home-schooling.

Keep their little minds in the cage. Keep them fearing and hating the same imaginary enemies of the forefathers.

What is the set standard of morals on adultery, how about polygamy?

The bible has no set guidelines on either of these.

cofty- TV Evangelist Pat Robertson has been stirring up Ebola fears using 1980s AIDs scare tactics. Its that kind of logic I think that is turning off the young from their parents religion. With good reason.

Why has there been a steady decline in religious participation in general might be related to the secular knowledge of what humanity has attained over the years.

I read a while back that in most European countries, the population that participates in religion on a regular basis is down to only 40%.

I would guess that percentage would similar in North America and bit higher in perhaps in South America.

    .

There does seem to be a trend these days for believing Christians to not share their beliefs in one organized institution, forgetting about man made

structured faiths and their dogma, instead creating a faith structured on their own, getting to know the lord personally so to speak.

That's what is interesting about this issue; the way modern day Christians and other relgious people give their ability to rationalize things, i order to follow a book which some primitive shepperds wrote. Everything in their lifes: IPADs, cars, phones, etc is palpable proof that science is the only knowledge that can truly be relied on, but they disregard this in order to buy into the fairy tale that has never delivered anything to them.

Who among them, when discovering they have cancer, will stay home and pray to God to cure them? Well none, because deep down they realize the futility of the fairytale and fairytales don't cure diseases, so at the end of the day, believer or unbeliever will always turn to the knowledge that has consistently delivered a solution the our problems.
