Jan, a Religious Group needs to clearly define itself as Non-Violent or Pacifist in this day and age. An individual can declare themselves the same for purposes of Political and Social change.

Saying you are Christian, Islamic, Jewish, or other ancient religious group tends to make you look arcane from the get-go. I have seen moderate Muslims disappear from FB in recent months because of the embarrassment over events in the Middle East. Jewish friends are struggling to disassociate themselves from Right Wing militant factions claiming to be Jewish.

I find the same conversation needed as a democrat-socialist/communist pacifist. There is clearly a violent Wing of Communism that I want nothing to do with or relate to in any way, but it takes conversations and actions to deliniate those differences in goals and ideologies.

Designs , yes . I was just trying to say that the cause of the worlds ills is human nature , not any one particular group of religious or political persuasion . I was not blaming politics in general , that would be grossly unfair . I was making the point that most people who engage in mass killing attempt to justify this by linking it to an ideal whether it be Christianity, Islam, the supremacy of the Arian race or whatever .

I have to admit to those who have posted about Islam and the Q'ran that I have not read it and so they are more qualified to comment than I . The fact that Designs says that he has seen moderate Muslims disappearing from facebook recently does suggest that there are Muslims ,and they probably are in the majority , who are horrified at what is going on in the name of their religion .

While I am not Muslim I do have a certain sympathy for those moderates because as a Christian , as Designs put it so well , just saying that you have a religious faith automatically singles you out as arcane , and I suspect that he was being polite in his description !

How came evil into the world and what has religion to do with it? This is the greatest philosophical question that you all must at least try to get a theory about before we all departure. This is one I have found rather ok.

Evolution creates lots of different species, among the finally humans. To survive, humans learn quickly how to strike first. Only those who´s got that talent, will eat and breed. But humans also are depending on a pack, a tribe, and a lot of other humans to help them just survive. When you have a pack of wolves r horses, or hens or whatever, always the strongest takes the lead. The strongest have a feeling that they must control the others in the gang, this in fact due to the risk of themselves being killed by some other from their own pack or to be overpowered from another nearby pack.

Now the constant war is on. Some of the leaders are( in many cases) mentally disturbed. They have Psychopathy, Asperger’s (high function) or just know that they must continue to lead their people. They need the help from a supranational power , which can kill, destroy any enemy and have the right to do it. They use “their god” to convince their people – that god is with us – you don’t have to fear anything if you just do as I tell you…..

World wars and enormous killing can start…..

I feel pity for all humans that are forced into this tragedy

Yes glenster after more research on the Dam and air strikes I see that this is more of an "stay out of our battles " message to the US than it is about bystanders. However it's still interesting how it was worded. Here is James Foleys statement from his Mom:

"We have never been prouder of our son Jim. He gave his life trying to expose the world to the suffering of the Syrian people.

We implore the kidnappers to spare the lives of the remaining hostages. Like Jim, they are innocents. They have no control over American government policy in Iraq, Syria or anywhere in the world.

We thank Jim for all the joy he gave us. He was an extraordinary son, brother, journalist and person. Please respect our privacy in the days ahead as we mourn and cherish Jim."

Just makes me wonder what her stance is on US involvement in Syria is. It's a very grey area concerning drawing a line regarding morality in intervening with violence. How much killing does a group of extremists have to perform before a stronger third party steps in? How many extremists does the third party have to kill before seasing fire?

The ancient Hebrews went about attacking other outside villagers to kill all the males, loot the valuables and take any young virginal girls hostage

back to their settlement, when they accomplished this they proclaimed their god gave them the power and strength to do so.

    .

When the Muslim extremists hit the twin towers in New York during the events of 911, crumbling those buildings to the ground the Muslims proclaimed their god Allah

had a supporting hand in the event.

I guess what it really comes down to it is what side of the coin your looking at.

Both events are on a coin with no merit as currency.

Agreed. There is no god. If there is, he is one sick, morbid and evil bastard.
