Read the side effects carefully and honestly ask yourself if you got those side effects would it be worth it. Hint: they can have an adverse effect on your sex drive and abilities.

Combining them with common medications can kill you.

Meds alone often don't fix the problem.
Depending on the cause and severity of the condition, many people need counseling in conjunction with the medication. Because let's face it: Unless you have an incurable, chronic problem, you can't keep taking pills for the rest of your life as your go-to coping device. There are often things outside the realm of a physical chemical imbalance that need to be addressed.

If you feel something odd, call your doctor immediately.

I have to wonder what medications a lot if those previois posters are referring to.

IF you have serious depression you basicly cannot manage it without medication.

i have never felt or known anyone who felt like a zombie from the medication, not if the people who where genuinely ill enough that they felt like a zombie prior to the medication.

i cannot stress enough that you cannot manage SERIOUS depression, by walking, eating well, etc etc. they may well help, but this is too big for that.

depression is a chemical imbalance, it needs medication just as diabetes does. I have had several episodes of severe depression, I cannot imagine what my life would have been like if I hadn't taken medication . I would strongly suggest the importance of good therapy, learning to re think the automatic ways we think is vital.

whilst anxiety and depression often go hand in hand they are totally not the same thing..

you need to ask yourself if what you are feeling is that sense of worry, anxiousness, or more a feeling of total hopelessness, lack of pleasure, inability to sleep....

i now take a very mild dose of a medication to control my blood pressure caused by my anxiety issues, it's worked well for me.

this is only my journey, but I do hope it helps.

as so many have said before, we are the walling wounded. I prefer the term survivor.

Certain types of depression require specific types of medication. Each person reacts to those chemicals differently, and doctors basically have to set up a dartboard, prescribe whatever hits, and see what happens. The human brain is immensely complicated, and we don't know much more about it.

I likewise absolve myself of any and all liability and do not claim to be a medical professional or even to be particularly knowledgeable on this or any subject (nice legalese huh?!) but the book "the emperors new drugs" made my mind up.

I would never want to tell anyone to or to not take them.

Since you asked, I am going to assume you want honest answers from a variety of people

    I have never taken them.

My brother (a JW in a bad marriage did)

    This was his result:

    They slow you down.

    Makes mental processing harder.

    Makes the face puffy.

    Causes weight gain.

At the end of the day - the precipitating problem is still there.

my lived experience is, I wouldn't be here today without them.

would I suggest chemical help is you're a little blue, or sad, or stressed? absolutely NOT

would I suggest it if you're seriously clinically depressed? absolutely YES.

would either be right? I have no idea! I can really only say what was right for me.

Oh, yes, Mille...the weight gain...all I did was sit on the couch and stare blindly into the television screen. I gained a lot of weight. I was on several different medications, but not all at the same time.

My husband was on just about every different medication out there. Do not drink alcohol on anti depressants. Myhusband ended up shooting himself in the stomach with a shotgun and dying 3 days later. I would say it was unsuccessful treatment for someone who went to the doctor every month.
