Interestingly, I Google "1914" and get 80MILLION results in .3 seconds.

Maybe the "neighbor" was not connected to the internet?

Problem with 1914. The leading scholars in ancient history believe Jerusalem was destroyed in 587 not 607...oops!

and the wts holds desperately to the idea that of 'a thousand years is but a day with God' is the penultimate guide to analyse all scripture from in the face of the verse that says 'no man knows the day nor the hour' and as well the wts time honoured ability to predict dates and be 100% wrong.

    Good one billy!

Yes, to make up a pretend conversation and then write an article about it is indeed insane!

Fed up with it then dumped it.

1.why would God need a date to be a king? Give one reason then I will be re-converted....

They dont understand who God is.

    2. Who decides that a verse has a second , third, forth meaning?

The deliberate error of the WT or its heresy is that they want the Bible to Justifie their religion/organisation for commercial interests/longevity of the religion (place more magazines because people fear the end, have more comverts, and families who will abandon their businesses to work freely on their projects).

    God is not that cunning!

Socialism! A sure sign that we are living in the last days!

In the August 15, 1914 Watch Tower [Russell] wrote:

Socialism is, we believe, the main factor in the war now raging and which will be earth's greatest and most terrible war -- and probably the last.

Later, in the November 1, 1914 Watch Tower Russell wrote:

We think that the present distress amongst the nations is merely the beginning of this time of trouble.... The anarchy that will follow this war will be the real time of trouble.... Our thought is that the war will so weaken the nations that following it there will be an attempt to bring in Socialistic ideas, and that this will be met by the governments -- etc., leading up to worldwide class struggle and anarchy.

    Along with all these things:

The Harp of God contains many references to 1874 in both the 1921 and 1928 editions. The 1927 edition of Creation uses inventions from 1874 onwards as evidence of the Lord's presence since that date. These included:

"But mention is made of some of those things that have come to light since 1874, as a further evidence of the Lord's presence since that date, as follows: Adding machines, aeroplanes, aluminium, antiseptic surgery, artificial dyes, automatic couplers, automobiles, barbed wire, bicycles, carborundum, cash registers, celluloid, cream separators, disc plows, electric railways, electric welding, elevators, escalators, fireless cookers, gas engines, harvesting machines, illuminating gas, induction motors, linotypes, monotypes, motion pictures, pasteurization, radium, railway signals, Roentgen rays, skyscrapers, smokeless powder, submarines, subways, talking machines, telephones, television, typewriters, vacuum cleaners, wireless telegraphy and wireless telephony." Creation 1927 2,175,000 ed. p.297

    (Emphasis mine; source: http://www.jwfacts.com/watchtower/1800s.php)

Imagine a clueless 1927 householder: "I was skeptical until I got to barbed wire and bicycles - man, that sure convinced me. This must be the Truth!"

    Just sayin'.

The most honest and truthful aspect for the WTS. to hold on to 1914 for so long is that in doing so it intensionally supports their perception of their

self proclaimed " God's chosen organization" (1919) . There are many connecting doctrines which are structured to support that single proclamation, 1914

is just a supporting segment of that .

To remove it would weaken the position of Jesus coming to earth and choosing the Watchtower organization as its solemnly chosen organization.

    .

Religious organizations like the JWS are always self supporting their identity as god's chosen organization, the Catholics, the Mormons, the Baptists all pretty much

    do the same thing.

They all state that they are pure or purer in worship than anyone else but thats part of their play toward self empowerment,

realistically power is too enticing and engaging to be inherently honest.

    .

The WTS. has always wagered upon the fact that they could lure a segment of the population toward themselves , they just had to exploit and manipulate

information and use its own publishing house to help accomplish that feat.

I'm really glad they're trotting out this particular thing again. Can't wait for the November article that brings up Luke 21:24. Talk about cherry-picking. And, using Daniel 12:8, which was a different vision at a different time in Daniel's life as proof he didn't understand? He DID understand! Notably, they left out the interpretation and Daniel himself saying it was fufilled (Dan 4:24-28).

In preview for next month, Luke 21:24 will be brought out. Noteworthy is the phrase "and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the nations". The Greek word for "will be" is "estai" is in the FUTURE tense in this verse, so CANNOT be talking about something that happened 600 years in the past when Christ spoke those words.
