1914 to 2014--Has Jesus been ruling for a 100 years?

Dearest JW,

Likely you are reading this because you are wondering that very thing: Did Jesus become King in October 1914? Will October 2014 mark 100 years of Kingdom rule?

On JW.ORG, you can find a letter from the Governing Body in the 2014 Yearbook, which says: “How delighted we are to write you at the beginning of this momentous year! By late 2014, a whole century will have passed since our beloved King Jesus Christ began ruling in the midst of his enemies.”

Perhaps you have silently thought to yourself that if the Armageddon doesn’t come by 2014, you might have to start reexamining matters. No doubt you are aware that the entire theology that you’ve been taught rests upon 1914. For without 1914, Jesus couldn’t have appointed anybody in 1919 to any special status. You realize also that this teaching, like many, is non-negotiable: if you do not accept this, and it becomes known, you could end up before an inquisition.

Of course, you think, 1914 was THE turning point in history, right? WWI was the deadliest war in human history up until that point, right? Since then a Composite Sign of wars, famines, pestilences, crime have plagued the world like never before, right? Surely conditions are getting worse and worse and that shows that we are living in the “last days of the last days”? And didn’t the Gentile Times end in 1914? Doesn't that prove that Jesus would become King in that year?

The following series will hopefully be of some help to you in regard these questions as you start to look into matters for yourself. This is not intended to be an endpoint in your research into 1914, but the very beginning.

The effects of Christ's rule are pretty much exactly like when he wasn't ruling. So what's the benefit?

If things are truly worse, as JWs would have us believe, then he's not a very effective ruler. (I know, Satan's the REAL ruler of the earth, but that brings up some other questions ...)

If things are really better, as statistics would tend to support, then why would we want it to end? (I know, paradise will be so much better with everyone having their own pet panda).

Either way, why wait for 100 years and keep making your "chosen religion" look so foolish by being wrong so often? Why not either tell them the accurate info the first time and be done with it, or at least fulfill their predictions so they don't look so stupid?

I can only think of a few answers to those questions:

1 - JWs are NOT Jesus "chosen religion,"

2 - Jesus is NOT ruling invisible from heaven, or

3 - All of the above

Based on the premise that events of the first century might find parallels in related events later, they also concluded that if Jesus’ baptism and anointing in the autumn of 29　C.E. paralleled the beginning of an invisible presence in 1874, then his riding into Jerusalem as King in the spring of 33　C.E. would point to the spring of 1878 as the time when he would assume his power as heavenly King

How many millions of people alive on Earth today, were alive in 1914? Just curious.

JW and WT claimed that the Jesus's Return was in 1878:

Be not surprised, then, when in subsequent chapters we present proofs that the setting up of the Kingdom of God is already begun, that it is pointed out in prophecy as due to begin the exercise of power in A.D. 1878, and that the "battle of the great day of God Almighty" (Rev. 16:14), which will end in A.D. 1915, with the complete overthrow of earth's present rulership, is already commenced. [Studies in the Scriptures]

So according JW theology, we are fifth generation living in invisible kingdom of Jesus. They claimed that the end of the time started in 1799. They did not change it until 1931, when it was clear that nobody from Napoleonic generation was no more alive. Today we have about 275,000 -325,000 people around the world that are 100 and more years old. This population will dissapear within next 10 years. There are 5 women alive that was born in 1899 and 1900. We known only 60 to 80 supercentenarians who are more than 110 years old. WT can claim 1914 for several more years, certianly, until 2034 when nobody from 1914 will be present. My JW relatives claim that the generation of 1914 is still around so the WT is "Truth" and Armageddon is imminent.
