A lot of the the removed songs had a war-like theme or lyrics to them.

We're not so warlike now, apparently.

Some of the songs were blatant rip-offs from classical works.

This Beethoven rip-off was amongst the worst. First the WT version:

Now the original Beethoven version, you need to slide in at 1 minute 28 seconds:

One of the baptismal songs from the 1950s, as I recall (I was baptised 1956) was a version of this one:

    1. Take my life and let it be
      Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
*Take my moments and my days,
Let them flow in endless praise.
    2. Take my hands and let them move
At the impulse of Thy love.
Take my feet and let them be
      Swift and beautiful for Thee.
    3. Take my voice and let me sing,
      Always, only for my King.
Take my lips and let them be
      Filled with messages from Thee.
    4. Take my silver and my gold,
Not a mite would I withhold.
      Take my intellect and use
Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.
    5. Take my will and make it Thine,
It shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart, it is Thine own,
It shall be Thy royal throne.
    6. Take my love, my Lord, I pour
At Thy feet its treasure store.
Take myself and I will be
      Ever, only, all for Thee.

This is No 705 in the Methodist hymn book, Hymns and Psalms, and it was written by Frances Ridley Havergal (1836-1879). She was an Anglican, daughter of an Anglican priest and ber brother was also a priest.

Anyone else remember the WT version?

I think they've been forced to can a lot of songs because of changing teachings. Lyrics can only be rewritten so much.

The very few times I attended a memorial with my husband I noticed that maybe one song sounded so familiar. I have no idea which, but I would begin singing different words than what was sung. It was weird! Obviously this was a plagerized tune.

Shula-mite maiden. Is one of the songs purged. The tune is the same minus the original wording as the song celebrated the "womanly" form.

    Robcrompton,

that was titled "dedication" in the green songbook. I thought it was beautiful and felt terrible when it was removed.

thanks for the historical update. What a bunch of lying weasels the wt is.

There was one line, "take my moments and my days, may they bring your constant praise.

take my feet and take my hands, may they serve your wise commands

i might add, that this was the song at every assembly following the baptism talk until it was dropped from the songbook.

I still find myself humming "We're Jehovah's Witnesses" to this day.
