If you believe Brontosaurus lived 3000 years ago in the Jordan valley what else is there to say

That's a very nice, high-budget slick video from the evolutionary perspective. It is full of misdirection. These discoveries don't tell us about the behavior of dinosaurs as much as they do about the AGE of dinosaurs. The program claims that the hell creek bones are unique, they are not.

Here's a really low budget, unrehearsed, off-the-cuff questioning of the finds:

    Perry,

Occam's razor says there's little reason to go with the odd-ball long-shot explanation where a more-probable simpler explanation exists. Look at this site, with a more terrestrial explanation of Behemoth and Leviathan, both animals indigenous to the region where the Bible's authors lived, and where other stories and mythology existed surrounding these animals. (Heck, wealthy Egyptians were known to consume hippo meat on special occasions, one of the Pharoahs died in a hippo-related hunting accident, etc).

As far as the DNA of dinosaurs, Prof Raul Cano is somewhat famous for his work in extracting insect DNA that's been preserved in amber (ancient tree sap which hardened with time) which basically is like Tupperware for DNA, extending it's half-life. DNA is an extremely fragile molecule, but no kidding, it CAN survive under unusual circumstances not normally encountered in nature (just like fossils don't form under any but unique circumstances).

It was Cano's work that inspired the movie "Jurassic Park", based on the concept of a mosquito biting a dinosaur being promptly trapped in amber, so millions of years later dinosaur DNA could be extracted (it hasn't happened YET, so only remains science-fiction, but theoretically possible). The guy has worked on projects extracting DNA from tissues of "Iceman" (5,300 yrs old) found in the Swiss/Italian Alps, so it's possible for DNA to survive and be recovered, IF the conditions were right to preserve it.

I'm wondering though, WHY are you concerned about this relatively-minor and trivial detail from the book of Job? Talk about getting lost in the forest for the trees!

It's not like hippos vs dinosaurs proves anything, or changes the FACT that the story of Job is based on an ancient legal premise used in various ancient cultures (Hebrews, Egyptian, Mesopotamian) that someone who was accused of a crime could take the "Oath of Innocence" in the presence of their deity and say, "So help me God, I'm telling the truth!" and be exonerated of the crime. The belief was that if they were lying, God would strike them dead on the spot. If they were INNOCENT, they could accuse someone ELSE of the crime, even if they weren't even present, and the trial and judgment could be handed down without the accused even able to defend himself. Nice justice, eh?

Eventually the first atheist was born, after discovering that someone could get away with murder and declare their innocense and NOT be struck dead! LOOPHOLE! So eventually the system had to ditched and prosecutors were forced to use flawed non-God-given "man-made" concepts like relying on actual INCRIMINATING EVIDENCE. Us pesky atheists ruin EVERYTHING, don't we!

Robert Sutherland is a Canadian lawyer/Bible scholar who wrote a book on the topic 20 yrs ago about the legal procedure upon which the Book of Job is BASED, where Job refuses to acquit God of the charge as being the source of evil for mankind (which God doesn't deny!), but then Job decides it may not be such a good idea to CURSE God, forcing God to punish himself for being guilty (and Job is rewarded). It's a story of Job daring to turn the tables on God, which is lost on most readers.

If you don't know what the Oath of Innocence is (like 99.99% of readers), then you truly don't understand the original context in which the story was written (likely over 100s of years, as Leolaia has pointed out redactors tampering with it over centuries), but the concept upon which it was written is CRUCIAL in understanding the basis upon which ancient people would interpret the story of Job.

    Oh, on this:

    Perry said-

It doesn't take a genius to realize that stench is coming from something organic!

    Quote From Discover Magazine 2006:

Once, when she was working with a T. rex skeleton harvested from Hell Creek, she noticed that the fossil exuded a distinctly organic odor. "It smelled just like one of the cadavers we had in the lab who had been treated with chemotherapy before he died," she says. Given the conventional wisdom that such fossils were made up entirely of minerals, Schweitzer was anxious when mentioning this to Horner. "But he said, 'Oh, yeah, all Hell Creek bones smell,'" she says. To most old-line paleontologists, the smell of death didn't even register.

You DO realize that non-fossilized bone is EXTREMELY porous, i.e. it contains tiny spaces (lacunae) which allow air to be trapped inside? Problem is, the fossil-forming process in and of itself REQUIRES that organic matter from the surrounding environment be carried into the matrix of bone, carrying minerals in an aqueous solution (i.e. ground water) to FORM a fossil and REPLACE the calcium matrix, in the first place? So NO KIDDING, sometimes volatile aromatic organic molecules which have been trapped for millions of years in the pores of the used-to-be-calcium bony matrix WILL be released in the air, as the palentologist cuts into the fossil.

That's why it's not news to ANY palentologist (new-time and old-time ones alike) that cutting fossils liberates aromatic organic compounds. You're jumping to a conclusion that the organic smell is coming from DNA molecules, and NOT from the most-obvious answer: the ground the bone was buried in contained organic living matter. In fact the LEAST-likely source WOULD be the DNA of the organism itself, since DNA inside the osteocytes that produced the calcium ALSO has long-since been replaced by minerals: that's the ENTIRE POINT of how a fossil is made.

Besides that, DNA is a long-chain double-helix polymer : do you KNOW what DNA smells like, or if it even HAS an odor, or is an odorless molecule?

(and no, smelling sperm doesn't count as DNA, since the distinctive and pungent aroma doesn't arise from it's DNA content itself, but due to polyamines.)

But getting back to DNA preservation, that's kind of the POINT of what makes Cano's work on extracting ancient DNA from amber so exciting: ancient tree sap acts as Nature's resin, and quickly dries and protects DNA inside in a tough encapsulating liquid that hardens tough as a rock (and blocks fossil formation, BTW), and that allows it to survive in an anaerobic (oxygen-free) environment which protects it from free-radical oxidative damage to which DNA is known to be highly-suseptible (oxidative damage to DNA is one cause of CANCER in living beings; in the case of non-living matter and metals, painting a metal surface protects it from RUSTING by keeping the oxygen out, thus preventing the same type of damage from oxygen as in living matter, since oxygen is a highly-reactive substance).

NOW, do you care to discuss the ACCOUNT OF JOB ITSELF?

Perhaps you care to explain the immorality of God admitting to being the source of evil in the World, i.e. God's authorization for Satan to take away the children, possessions, health of someone God TWICE admitted was "blameless", just to see if Job "breaks"?

How about the morality of the verbal strip-down God delivers to Job, telling him he wouldn't understand EVEN IF HE TOLD HIM? Was Job so unintelligent he was unable to comprehend what the READER is able to somprehend, since the Bible TELLS US WHY Job experienced suffering; it's explained in two words: BAR BET, or Loyalty Test.

    Balls in your court!

Science and Social issues are often at odds with the modern Fundamentalist. I have to admit I didn't see Dino roaming the Jordan valley with King David and Solomon coming

Recently Pat Robertson, who hears from God directly, said that gays wear rings with sharp edges to infect people with HIV.

JK Rowling wants to teach your kids Satanism.

Planned Parenthood wants to have your kids become sex addicts.

Birth Control pills make a woman's uterus a graveyard of the unborn.

...and #1 on the Fundies list- Obama is the AntiChrist!
