Why we have Conspiracy Theorists......

This is one of those subjects that makes you think about the nature of evil.

We could just say, 'well, there are psychopaths in drug companies, the government and corporations' and leave it at that. I realize that is probably an oversimplification but how else do you explain such things?

On a similar note, I observe that most Witnesses aren't overtly crazy - they hold jobs or raise kids, etc..... and yet, they are willing to give their fanatical allegiance to an organization that's been making false predictions for over 130 years ! These are people who would be upset if an expected cable installer failed to keep an appointment at their home !

In regard to cancer cover-ups, I would like to understand the genesis of a situation such as Vermox: clinical studies suggest it could be a powerful drug against tumors but it's too cheap. Does a specific Teva executive say, "Quick, let's stop manufacturing this drug in the US before anyone finds out" ??? And charities....... ? How do they justify endless years of money-gathering that never seem to result in a cure?

We have a large medical research facility here.

Here's how the 'money' works. The scientists at the university research facility do most of the work in searching for cures, and developing the drugs (ie, the government funds it) .... then, when it is pretty much 'ready to go to market', the Pharmaceuticals take over and do the final 'clinical trials', patent the drug, and rake in profits.

cantleave... Ah, yes, that is true. (checked out your link) There are those, for sure, which are obvious quackery and deserve all the sarcasm.

But the research done in Alberta was valid, and *poof*, it disappeared. It's instances such as that which I find worrisome/disturbing.

Also lumping in alien and bigfoot and reptoid things may seem to discredit these "conspiracies" but know that these things dont have the proof that other things called "theories" have....BU2B

That is just a way to dismiss people as a whole...just label them 'conspiracy theorists' isn't it BU2B?

That way people can ease their own conscience about having to actually LOOK at anything that is presented and has evidence to support it and do their own research. Or see what just doesn't stack up the way our governments and so called 'experts' tell us it does.

They can carry on in their own little world and convince themselves those conspiracy apostates are just crazy...our government and big pharm really are thinking about our needs and they really are looking after us...just like a mummy and daddy should.

Being in JW land is just a reflection of being in denial land on a smaller scale. Just like good JW's...people don't want to see what is really happening in front of their eyes. Because then they might have to get off their asses and actually DO something about it.

Easier to just make fun of people and deny ALL of it...call people crazy...or kooks...or nutters...or conspiracy theorists. Label them and discredit them...now where have we seen THAT behaviour before?

Americans have one of the most corrupt governments this world has ever seen, that lies to them, so it is little wonder that a few of them might make an attempt to call the rulers out on some things, even if the guess is a bit misguided.

Heck, even some people in the government are conspiracy theorists.

Conspiracies do of course exist, and theories about who was/is involved may vary, so it is not the formulating of a theory concerning a conspiracy that should be at issue, but rather, whether or not the facts support the theory. A case in point is the recent 'horse burger' scandal affecting the UK.

"Environment Secretary Owen Paterson has already insisted there is an 'international criminal conspiracy' behind the horse meat scandal and as cases of contamination rise, theories on why and how horse meat got into our meals have begun to circulate. Some theories have already made it into print, with the Daily Mail accusing the mafia of masterminding a great horsemeat cover-up earlier in February. In some ways it makes sense. After all, mobsters are renowned for disrespecting horse welfare (think of that scene from The Godfather)." It is very wise indeed to be careful about what food you eat, because there will always be greedy businesses that act irresponsibly and unfortunately harm others in the process. Just consider this alarming report on infant milk formula in China:

"In the past decade major problems with Chinese-made food and drugs has led to thousands of deaths, mostly in China itself, but many in rich countries too, including at least 150 deaths in the U.S. from counterfeits of the drug heparin. And while fake drugs are the largest concern for foreigners, within China the greatest fear is over milk formula. Sometimes contaminated with hormones and industrial chemicals, emergency rooms have routinely been inundated with parents and their newborns with nasty reactions to dangerous formula. In 2008 the worst single incident led to 6 deaths and 300,000 infants affected. The Chinese company Sanlu had illegally added the chemical melamine to diluted milk products to falsely boost protein levels. While the company was sanctioned by the state, consumers had no standing to get redress in court. Comedians in Hong Kong joked that 'Made in China' should come with a skull and crossbones warning."
