cantleave i agree with you that ideas should be criticised but religion involves hearts and minds and care needs to be taken to not cause offense or to cause someone to act hastily and regret it later.

if i had left the Witnesses in my teens it would have been the wrong time for me. I don't share your views about God and it would go against my conscience to be like you.

    Ucant:

Well at least your partially honest in admitting your beliefs are not found in the bible, but claiming its true when its pure imagination or an illness.

Ucantnome: your story of the salad and cockroach is interesting.

from my viewpoint as a christian it sounds like you're comparing a ruined salad with going against the Holy spirit.

Terry: NO sir. I am responding to this statement you originally made:

Ucantnome:I suppose this 'garbage in garbage out' irritates me. If as i think Terry is talking about the bible it sounds rude. It sounds as if he's saying people like my relative are stupid.

Terry: Those gathered to eat dinner aren't stupid in not knowing a roach crawled in the salad. But, the salad belongs in the garbage. It is not RUDE to give people an INFORMED CHOICE as to whether they want the meal with sanitary conditions such as they were.

So, my analogy had nothing to do with holy spirit and only had to do with the act of INFORMING or NOT INFORMING people about corruption of one sort or another in something they unwittingly view as beneficial.

Now are we on the same page?

but the bible does have something to do with Holy spirit and an informed choice regarding the things you mention about the bible would require much more than you have provided. no i dont know that we are on the same page.

“mP:” “Thats simply not true. The Bible is full of amazing contradictions. . . . The OT also has many crazy problems.”

Actually, I agree with you that the Bible does have its share of problems and inconsistencies, both within itself and with respect to some significant aspects of logic as a whole. The point is that the rate of garbage turnover/decay – or “error rate” – of the Watchtower is quite significantly more so. All being said and done, they could rename that corporation to “Garbage Inc.” (If a data entry clerk made proportionally that many more mistakes per hour, then I wouldn’t give his employment tenure too much time.)

And, of course, when the JWs “prop up their belief system with a cocktail of scriptures and some central leader's ideas,” then they’re just basically getting up and pissing into that mix of human allegory, revised history, and subjective opinions which make up the collective collage we call the Bible . . . and they hope to make people expect an end product to come out which is exclusively superior. It’s kind of like that hypothetical analogy the Watchtower used regarding the infinite improbability of evolution – that of a bunch of monkeys on typewriters. Only, in their case, more key pecking certainly hasn’t made a better product.
