I agree the NT is fabricated, altered and harldy in its pure form.

While i agree with your angle, i think you give far too much credability to the "start" everyone knows or believes. YOu appear to be making the assumption that jesus even existed. Rather than looking at the start of the written record, i think one needs to look from the very beginning.

The important thing it seems to me Terry, for salvation, is faith in Jesus Christ and the bible seems to have played a large part in the fact that many many people have faith in Jesus Christ 2000 years after his death and resurrection and amidst an increasing secular modern world. Faith the bible says is a fruitage of the spirit. So maybe there is evidence of that fruitage and the spirit today. So great things have been accomplished.

your garbage in garbage out is refering to the bible as garbage? and you at one time would have said you had Holy spirit?

mP. i think it's more to do with the Holy Spirit direction than what a person wants to do

I am no expert on Fallacious Reasonings, but I think Ucantnome's post above, number 694, is a beautiful example of a Circular Argument ??

Phizzy, a close relative is head of theology at a university. We have some interesting discussions he may even agree with you that my reasoning is poor.

The thing is though that he is very intelligent and very well read and a believer. The point I making with this is that I feel believers on this board are sometimes portrayed as stupid people who can't think, this maybe true of me but it certainly isn't the case with many.

I suppose this 'garbage in garbage out' irritates me. If as i think Terry is talking about the bible it sounds rude. It sounds as if he's saying people like my relative are stupid. It sounds rude in the sense that to many in this world life isn't that good and there is no hope.

Everlasting death or everlasting life. Even if my reasoning is poor. I know what I'd rather hope for and may be it's not my reasoning just my ability to express myself.

As you know "Garbage in garbage out" is the expression that explains what many claimed were errors by their computer, but were in fact the users fault.

I think Terry was using it more in that way, not to be rude, but to point out that the basic data that was put in to Chrisitianity, the Bible, was faulty in the first place, therefore you are bound to end up with something very doubtful.

I think refering to what billions of people believe is a Holy book as garbage would be disrepectful of anothers beliefs and therefore rude.

Now that you've raised your objection (and it has merit, no doubt about that) I'll address the issue of "rudeness".

I'm going to tell you a true story that might serve as an illustration.

Around 1970 I was newly married and my wife and I were invited over to the house of another JW couple. These were not the tidy sort, but, they

    were good company.

Other JW couples were there also.

The "sisters" went off into the kitchen to prepare the meal while the "brothers" gathered in the living room to chat.

About 10 minutes later I notice my wife poking her head out of the kitchen. She was trying to get my attention.

I walked over and she whispered something confidentially.

"A large cockroach crawled into the salad bowl. Sister Sullivan and I are the only ones who saw it. She managed to snatch it out and get rid of it. But, she doesn't want to say anything. What should I do?"

I looked at her like she was crazy. "What do you mean, what should you do? You don't expect everybody to eat that do you?"

Now it was her turn to look at me like I was crazy!

She said, "Once we mention the cockroach in the food nobody is going to want to eat ANY of it and the meal will be ruined. It is not Sister Sullivan's fault."

And that is my true story!

I won't tell you what happened next because it is beside the point.

I hear your objection and you sound like you are saying what my wife and Sister Sullivan were saying.

Should we avoid hurting innocent people's pleasant feelings and ruining a nice time by pointing out that an otherwise convivial get together

is obviously NOT what everybody THINKS it is?

What does "Garbage In=Garbage out mean?

Stands for "Garbage In, Garbage Out." It means that if invalid data is entered in a computer program, the resulting output will also be invalid.
