Corporate study is the core JW religious act -- part of the rationalism fetish they have. Since study is an intellectual act, it's obvious that not everyone will be at the same level; so the main thing that global corporate study cannot be is useful for, you know, learning.

Of course, back in the day, there was also this idea that they were going to share some super-kewl prophetic interpretations from time to time. Of course, conspiracy theories are something more like the opposite of intellectual activity, But that's another thread, I guess.

JWs are stupid and dishonest, so their literature must also be stupid and dishonest.

I have found it much more beneficial to listen to and read the writings of Dr. Laura, Dr. Phil, Dr. Wayne Dyer and others than to listen to the same divel over and over. At least Dr. Laura cares about right and wrong, the consequences of behavior and helping others in a way that is useful. Her book, Ten Stupid Things Women Do to Mess Up Their Lives, should be required reading for all young girls and women. She wrote a book like this for men as well.

It is hard for people who have never been able to shake of the rules of childhood (i.e., looking to others for orders and accepting punishment from others for messing up) to learn to decide for themselves what is right and wrong and to accept consequences of their actions, not punishment from an outside source, such as parents or religious leaders or the "devil."

    Regards,

    SandraC

    I meant "drivel," not "divel."

I really like your point, Mum. I've felt for a while now that being a Witness is somehow infantilizing, but you summed it up well.

P.S.: You can edit your post to fix typos, at least for half an hour after posting.

When I left in 1988 it seemed to me that the the literature was very tired. It's done nothing but get worse since then, from what I've seen. The "spiritual food" is going the way of Burger King. While other places update the menus and choices to meet changing tastes the WTBS is still trying to sell the same old stuff.

And I think the R&F knows it. From time to time I see dubs doing street work in downtown Seattle. They look broken, they don't smile, they don't engage anybody; they just stand there holding up a couple of magazines. The religion is dead, it just hasn't fallen over yet. Maybe they can reinvent themselves, but I don't think so; it would require a huge break with the past.

i think these thread titles come up every now and then. It makes less and less sense to us because of our current mind state. But the "flock" is generally on repeat so it hasn't really been something I have heard from.

The WTS is now endeavored to distance itself from its past doctrines and proclamations, this was suppose to be a religious organization of truthful

bible interpretations, not a organization of false religion.

The Spiritual food provided by this organization is now being recognized as been tainted by adverse and adulterated commercialism,

which is being openly exposed on places like the inter-net.

Are the leaders of this organization worried (GB members) ? you bet they are.

And one might assume the WTS. organization is going through some Reformation right now because of it.

There used to be more "deep" study. It was crap, but at least the cult had an apperance of depth.. Now its just conform, dont question, keep yourselves in gods love, its just behavior control now. When there is anything deeper it just recycles old stuff. Even the Jerimiah book really has nothing of his prophecies, just twisting and massaging the Bible book to push field service, conformity.. Ironic because Jerimiah actually sttod up to "Jehovahs organization" of the day, he was all alone and refused to conform. But most of the indoctrinated wont see whats staring them in the face unfortuantunately

Their positive creativity is just shot. Then, when they try to come up with anything new or additional it is just 'madness.' Like when they came up with "overlapping generation," "diseased apostates," and that Selma should understand when her husband 'hits' her that it is her fault and implicate that she should stay with him as perhaps years later he will become a JW. I have noticed they haven't said these terms in awhile.

Maybe, since most JWs can't even explain the "overlapping" shows that most of them haven't embraced that term or doctrine. Maybe they suspect half of JWs are still talking with some of their DF'd relatives (especially, moms with DF'd grown kids,) and most of the beaten "sisters" are leaving their abusing husbands anyway.

Maybe the writing department has had a flash of "New Light"..... no one (not even the faithful) is taking the time to read the articles.

The mags used to be structured in a "Readers Digest" format.

Now they're just Cliff Notes for the Bible.
