I MADE A HUGE MISTAKE

So for the first time in many months I agreed to go to the meeting with my wife. I know; why put myself through such anguish. In any event I did not get the reception I was expecting. I spoke to a few friends before the meeting that I do really like. They are not the overzealous type and are very non-judgemental.

I have to tell you that the meeting itself was dreadful! It felt like an all-day Insurance actuarial conference-brutal. Here are some points that I found humorous and disturbing.

    • The discussion of the Jeremiah book was disgusting in how they label every single person outside of the JW religion as these vile disgusting creatures. It was horrible and some of the comments were nauseating. I told my wife these horrible people they are describing are sitting inside the walls of the Kingdom Hall not outside, and she actually agreed with me. Then it made some asinine comment about entertaining worldly clients for profit and financial gain. That many (where are their statistics to back this BS claim?) have foregone these opportunities even if it means missing out on financial gains. WTF, so every single person you entertain for business is a foul mouthed immoral, crack smoking, porn surfing heathen? What nerve to pigeon hole all non JW’s into this category. Arrogant a-holes!

    • Bible Highlites; the most ironic comment was (sorry I don’t recall the scriptural application) was when this uber elder went on to describe that “we need to be careful of our opinions of men (all non JW’s) as they can absolutely influence and corrupt our thinking”. I thought “oh you mean the way that you allow 8 men to influence and corrupt your thinking ability?” Do people actually listen to themselves when they speak?

    • Service Meeting: Pioneer Campaign. BARF CITY! This one made me get up to use the facilities twice as I just could not handle this 20 minute pep rally. First of all the Q&A portions are so infantile. I find the entire process so demeaning and condescending. I mean by the time I was in grade three I was utilizing more self-reasoning than this. I can’t believe that for so many years-decades I thought this was the way of True Religion. What really bugged me was when the moderator made the comment; “of all those that make sacrifices to auxiliary pioneer are 100% always blessed and feel great afterwards, I guarantee it”! Really you “guarantee” that you know exactly how everyone feels? If it is so euphoric, uplifting and gives you abundant joy…then don’t you think people would be pioneering as often as they possibly could? Also if it gives you sooo much joy then why in the hell would you just pioneer for 50 hours and not the reduced amount of 30? No rather you have to get up on the platform and BEG publishers to fill out that stupid form so they can experience all these joys and rich spiritual blessings. BTW can you please quantify in tangible terms what these joys and blessings are? Nope-no can do!

So that is the readers digest version of my "I made a huge mistake” this week. I assured my wife unlike Arnold Schwarzenegger…”I WONT be back!”

That was pretty funny! I didn't find it disturbing at all.

I feel for you man, it really does suck to go back for even one meeting.

The last meeting I attended, I realized how effing boring it all was. You're basically there to hear somebody else's public reading skills. It immediately felt like I was in 4th grade english again, listening to some kid read paragraphs out of a book I could care less about. This is what makes someone spiritual-- sitting in a lecture hall listening to window washers read recycled paragraphs from a stage, finding the answer in the paragraph and saying it into a mic, well done brother holy!

I agree. Toward the end, I realized that much of what was said at the meetings amounted to Hate Speech.

“of all those that make sacrifices to auxiliary pioneer are 100% always blessed and feel great afterwards, I guarantee it”

Is that a money back guarantee? I'm due a refund then. I was not blessed and I felt horrible afterwards.

Pioneering was in the top 5 most miserable experiences of my life--and that's saying a lot. lol

Nicely written. I truly identify with your discription of 3 grade mentality. I remember sitting at the hall a a pre-teen rolling my eyes at the infantile stuff they talked about. I think the funniest service meetings were the one directly before a assembly... you know... the hygine talk... make sure your car is clean and looks respectable. LOL
