BluesBrother: We do not have Superbowl over here

Assuming you're in Great Britain... Yea, ya do... I watched it in a pub in London one year. The TV Commentators were somewhat at a loss as to how to explain the rules (with the exception of one ex-NFL player who shouldve stayed out of broadcasting), and the locals were bemused by the spectacle, but it was on the telly and us traveling Yanks were having a good time.

" My former pastor invited the guys to church to watch the Superbowl on the big screen."

The church I went to in Indiana did that all the time, especially when the Colts were at the Superbowl.

Anything that brings you joy that is not related to The Truth tm is evil. That is the founding belief of Jehovah's Witnesses. That way you are forced to be so depressed you have nothing to live for by the New World tm . To find any joy from this world is a sin.

    Scumbag!

Since when is it a sin to watch a damn football game? Just because it's "the biggest game of the year", why is it wrong to watch it? Are they so sure that everyone is going to get drunk and start fighting? Not to mention, what's wrong with "merry making"? Sounds like having fun is a sin.

Not to mention, it is a grander waste of time to do field circus. You get piddling results with field circus, because you are fighting against nature to get people to start themselves fighting nature. You waste lots of gas in field circus (for sure, more than I "wasted" running my Christmas lights and more than you "waste" watching a TV that is 2 meters in size). You waste even more time preparing for those calls. Boasting sessions waste even more time. I get more out of those big boasting sessions in 15 minutes simply by reading one post than I could ever get out of them by attending--a bigger waste than watching the whole Superbowl.

And for what? How many witlesses have souls that are so feeble that you could knock them down with a feather duster? I have seen more than my share of soulless witlesses. Most have virtually no personality, and they preach helplessness. They are damning themselves to a reincarnation of more dead works, or to being fed to the filthy angels. And they are not willing to seek real spiritual growth. They give up so much, and get nothing in exchange for it. Not to mention, they are so engrossed with field circus that they can't even take time to prepare for the coming crisis--at least I can get ready for it by buying silver (for when the dollar becomes worthless, the longer it takes the worse it will be when it does get here) and emergency lights for the upcoming energy crisis related rolling blackouts. And I can still watch whatever football game I damn well wish to--once you order those emergency supplies, you are free until they show up at your door, and then you only have to place them where you can access them when you need them.

Thier discouraging supe bowl parties is nothing new to me. I haven't been to a meeting in over a decade but I remember dubs discouraging SB parties almost every year. Same crap, new day is all.

calebs airplane - That was pretty good. Are you on WTS writing department by any chance? That sounded way to close to the original.

You could slip that in a study and the r&f would say, 'where else could we get this timely spiritual nourishment? Thanks faithful slave!'
