July 2009 Awake No one should be made to choose between family and religion

ask your wife, is there's anybody she know who is disfellowshipped and shunned

Then ask, do she believe everyone who left, left because they simply

wanted to do wrong ? Then read the article above together

JW's make you believe folks in their congs left simply because they want to do wrong

why ? because if you were to find out that people also leave because of the teachin's

other JW's would examine these things and may leave also

Well - there are numerous occasions of deception - either blatant or subtle. To be honest , the most henious ( from a religion that supposedly upholds the sanctity of scripture ) are the various manipulations & mistranslations in the NWT to support WTBTS doctrine.

The change in the Watchtower in 1989 was an obvious documented deception - they changed the reference from "the preaching work will end in the 20th century" on the original to " in our day" in the bound volume. No apology - no erratum. Nothing - just a hope that people didn't notice. And (self evidently as we are now in 2012 ) a false prophecy. (Deut 18:22 ) Scans below...

What about the poaching of pictures in the Bible Story book and Watchtower covers?

But as others have said - it really depends on the degree of your wife's indoctrination .

i dunno if you're still reading this thread, but the walsh trial is a good one. you can even find the actual court transcript online and in there they admit to pushing false prophecy...in court.

there's also the part where they admit it's better for everyone to believe the same lie than for everyone to think for themselves and go every which way.

another suggestion is the san diego trial of gonzalo campos i believe his name was. in the court docs, the wts says that:

    1. witnesses don't have to go to meetings

    2. don't have to go out in service

    3. jws don't have to start bible studies, in fact that's NOT the purpose of fs at all! this is stated/typed in binding court docs

4.jws don't have to invite anyone to meetings, again...court docs

reason why they make all those points? to limit liability when it comes to what sexual predators are being brought into the kingdom halls

the last suggestion i have is the timeline for john dorman's abuse. he was first abused as a 5 year old child. a man who eventually became an elder started abusing 5 year old john dorman when he was first an ms if i remember right. this continued for years and the elders did nothing despite knowing about the accusations of child molesting floating around him

There is of course, the whole 1975 issue... of course any JW knows they deny it now but the many, many articles in both the Watchtower and Awake, as well as the conventions with the theme 'Stay Alive Until 75' says otherwise.

This expose was on jwn a year ago by our own Terry.

The heads of the society schemed and deceived about Beth Sarim & Beth Shan.

This whole debacle will be very interesting to most women as it involves homes & intrigue!

Be sure to click thru the links ... and just see the deliberate deception.

    Very good luck with this.

Also, when your wife is pre studying her watchtower ... you might say to her

"hhmmm ... they always give you the answers, .....(let her respond) ............

...but they are also giving you all the questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One way to approach this is to ask her what sort of topics she's really interested in and what type of proof of deceit she would consider sufficient.

If she will only accept a document signed by Rutherford or Fred Franz saying, "I made it all up...." or "I lied to the brothers about...," you're wasting your time. Hopefully, she will see that that is an impossible standard.

If you can involve her in the process, then she will have to think and commit herself to some sort of reasonable standard.

Likewise, if she gives you a number of topics she considers important, you won't waste hours of energy proving that the GB lied about something only to have her back out later by telling you that she considers it trivial or inconsequential -- like a white lie no one cares about.

Cedar's survey is very interesting showing that many active witnesse's have concerns "As many of you will know, the final question in the survey asks which JW beliefs and practices you disagree with most. Interestingly, the top three most contentious teachings have so far remained the same from the 2011 survey, namely (1) higher education, (2) shunning, and (3) the treatment of pedophilia as a judicial matter rather than a crime."

Considering your statement about living a similar life re OOMPA these last three items puts you on safer ground. If it's me and the safer ground includes my wife I'd simply do a fade and not get into the theology.
