I spent some time with Sam Hurd and his wife when he was a D.O.

I had them over for lunch ... he was Wowed. I remember his soft soothing voice when he chatted one on one, and his dynamic voice when he was on the platform at Circuit Assemblies.

He didn't sound like James Earl Jones, but his voice was equally as pleasurable and dynamic to listen to. I'd attend an assembly just to hear the sound of his voice.

I had a handshake and a HowDoYouDo with Gerrit Losch after a Circuit Assembly once.

    It was completely under-whelming.

    Is that a euphemism?

I found this thread very interesting. I remember talking about the GB to a friend and how it seemed like people almost worshiped them. We clapped for them BEFORE and AFTER their talks at the DC's. They were our future kings and priests. And OHHHHH how happy we were if we met them and found them to be so loving and oh so humble.

She said, "That's so not true! I don't know anyone that could even tell you who the governing body are!"

Uhhhhh...yeah... I think this thread goes a long way to show that even the mere meeting of them left its imprint on us. Anyone that would say what she said is lying to themselves. Hasn't anyone seen the "To the ends of the earth" video? There's a whole section on how awesome it was for the gilead students to get to meet the GB and find out that....what?!?!? THEY ARE SO MEEK AND HUMBLE!!!!

When I first got to bethel, they showed us a video called "How Awesome This Place Is!!!" The GB were all over in it and everyone just GUSHED! Now it seems like every video they release, it has a GB giving the intro.

No, the GB do not stay in the background. They love the attention that we all gave them as JWs.

Fed up - I suspect GB for Cook.

lohengren - He's a black man with an outrageous sense of humor. The friends love him for it. Most do. His normalness destroys the perception of the higher uppers, who want to be looked at a certain way. He's aware of how he's perceived. He's not reserved in public. He is who he is. And it seems like they try to keep him quiet...

So he sees the crap in the org, and is NOT afraid to be honest and up front about it. But you put too much of that in front of the friends, spells trouble.

They limit his overall air-time, and I think he's ok with it. He's too humble when it comes to obedience to the ORG.

I met Knorr back in the 70's. He wasnt on the governing body. He was the president.

I met Fred and Raymond Franz, although I really knew Raymond much better. Also, Dan Sydlic and Nathan Knorr. I had decided that I admired Fred Franz due to a story someone told me about him riding in an elevator and singing "Jingle Bells". Everyone was surprised because it was considered a Christmas song. Somehow he explained that there was not one reference in the song about Christmas. I thought: "Well, that's unbiased thinking and a bit out-of-the-box", hence my admiration. Later, I came to realize that he was protected and revered by Knorr for his biblical interpretations. I point to him as the main protagonist for starting the 1975/Armageddon speech that cause so much grief. He is the main reason Knorr wanted all Bethelites to remain single, something he did not prescribe for himself.

Raymond was a dear man. I could sense his dedication and even some cautiousness when dealing with some subjects. He endeavored to be knowledgeable. My impression was that in most instances, his wife Cynthia was reserved and relatively quiet compared to him. But I could also tell that she was no slouch and was very intelligent.

I thought that Dan Sydlic was a good guy. But, I watched him revel a little at the fact that he became much more significant after Knorr was not in charge anymore and the Governing Body, of which he became a member of, took over.

Knorr was a tyrant and an ass. He gave a few of us "new boys" a condescending look while riding in an elevator as we talked about the experience of the first night watch at the Squibb building. It's possible that we were overly enthusiastic, but I didn't think it deserved the scowling look. I thought he would understand our situation being new and ignorant. I don't know how many others noticed it or even if they were aware that he was in the elevator, but I sure as hell did. It turns out he had very specific ideas of how a bethelite should act.

On another occasion, he gave me a "killer" look (I think that but for the briefness of the occurrence he would have turned around a said something to me). I was rushing on a Saturday morning from the Towers Hotel (back before it was purchased and renovated) to take a call from a family member at the main building. In those days, the Bethel front desk would get a call and they would have to make another call to the "Towers" desk who would in turn ring the hall phone (we only had a few floors then) and someone would come knocking at your door. I ran out of the Towers Hotel and was still trying to put my coat on as I reached the front of the 107 building. As we passed each other, Knorr gave me a disapproving scowl, which I duly noted. I think that if he had turned around and said something to me, I would have unloaded on him, despite the consequences. I had worked the night before, was in bed when I got the call and was not in the mood for any crap.

Lyman Swingle came to our small town rural circuit assembly in the late 90's. My brother was charged with escorting him around the site by the assembly coordinator (chairman). They wandered around and basically my brother was to help him around and keep him out of trouble in his old age. When my brother started to follow him into the bathroom he said "I can go poop by myself"!

I personally heard two GB menbers speak(gp.sh),they are good speakers and are sincere.

I totally disagree of those who protray that the GB are good people.I have no use for anyone

who has destroyed and ruin families with their propaganda.Such families as Bowen,Anderson, lady Lee

and others.Dictators are good speakers and are good people to some but look at the damage to others.

Christ alone said "They believe they are Jehovahs chosen people and that he deals with them directly."

He also mentioned a lot of other things the the GB thinks highly of themselves. I say it more like

AUDITORYHALLUCINTIONS.Maybe they have psychosis or are psychotic and hear voives or are delusionally.
