That is a nice waste of people's time. The debate has been going on since the 1840s, and they settled on 1874. Of course, that was a spectacular flop. And now they have the nerve to keep people in a perpetual emergency. In fact, they should be doing things to improve the quality of their lives, including spiritual meditation (even a little is better than what the witlesses do), and genuine research.

What the witlesses don't realize is that it is now the Age of Question-Everything Aquarius. Very often, back in the 1970s, they would get something in the hands of a householder and they would study, get baptized, and remain faithful a few years without realizing anything is wrong. These days, they will take the rag or littera-trash, go online, and do cross-referencing. It is as likely to shake their beliefs to the core, derailing their faith in Jesus altogether, as to get them interested in studying. And when they find it's a scam, they are not buying in.

What a difference between this and spiritual Satanism. There is no "emergency" for those inside--you are free to empower your soul, do unbiased Aquarian-age research, and go about your business. The emergency is for those that are dependent on Christi-SCAM-ity for their livelihood or are too emotionally attached to it (and cannot think for themselves), and that because their security or livelihood is about to implode. Once you are out, or at least able to become independent thinkers, you are no longer in "danger". And there is no pressure to join anything, no hurry to commit, and nothing that binds you to any one source for information. Just the freedom to research Christi-SCAM-ity, observe how miserable missionaries are, watch church leaders whining because of empty collection plates, and realize that the whole thing is a lie.

This article was particularly terrible. As in full of manipulative language and same boring themes over and over.

The main points of the article seem to have been --

    1. The END IS SOON! it even dares to point out that the people prior to 1914 also felt this sense of urgency but that they should definitely not regret giving up all the things they really wanted in life for the end that has not come. They should look around them and feel happy for what they have now! YUCK

    2. We JW's are super special, way more special than everyone else.

    3. The things you value and want in life mean nothing. You live to serve US. (BORG)

    4. In case you forgot, the END IS SOON!

    5. Oh yeah, and people who believe in evolution only believe in it because it gives them an out to live an easy, wicked, carefree life of no accountability, because it is inconceivable that a non-JW could live by a code of morals or be a good person or find a life of NOT daily fearing god's wrath at armageddon to be rewarding.

    6. Lastly, those stupid "so called Christians" believe God will love you no matter what. Fools! Unconditional love is evil and wrong.

    GAG ME!!!

Para 14...Authorities report hundreds of instances of nuclear material being lost. Do terrorists have some of that?

A fallacious argument based on false reasoning.. I would call it an appeal to rumour and here say.

We would need to know what type of material was lost, or unaccounted for, what is its shelf-life? Could it be used by a terrorist? If so, asking an open question is just feeding fear with rumours . Well, have they? ...Nobody knows, although it is unlikely.

So what is their point ...is it "let's be frightened because the worst could maybe happen, possibly.....That is hardly convincing argument .

I dug out my old "Theocratic Ministry School Guidebook which they produced back in the day . Is says on p 154

"To convince means to satisfy by proofs.....Argument to support them is usually required etc....."

Perhaps the sloppy article writer should go back and read the book...

If the message is so urgent, why do they use the door-to-door prominently in their preaching? Wouldn't it be more effective to use the television, internet and radio? If there was a tornado or tsunami coming and we tried to let people know by ONLY knocking on the doors , how many would survive?

    Probably not too many.

Popcorn eater hit it on the head. That's exactly the message this latest stupid article contained, and it's not even exaggerated.

As evidence that the end is SOON, the WT used two points: First, that nuclear warheads exist, nuclear material has gone missing and MIGHT BE in the hands of terrorists. Second, that the world is facing devestation as a result of climate change. What do those two things have to do w/Jesus' prophecy of the last days in Matthew 24? Let's see...oh, yeah--NOTHING!!

First, the Vancouver Sun recently had a fantastic piece on the history of nuclear weapons since the fall of the iron curtain and how the West had done a superlative job (not perfect, but amazingly damn good) of keeping the stuff away from terrorists. Basically, if any had fallen into the hands of terrorists, we'd know about it by now. Moreover, the mere existence of such weapons is NOT a fulfillment of Jesus' prophecy of widespread warfare. In fact, the existence of these weapons has actually prevented any major warfare, ie armed conflict b/w major powers, for the last 70 years or so.

Second, where the hell does the NT even vaguely contemplate environmental disaster? Rev. 11:18, which is the ONLY scrip the WT trots out, refers to "ruining the earth" with violence, ie, human conflict.

It is telling that the only specific evidence that they can muster isn't even on point.

Lastly, the stupid, stupid comment about evolution made me want to barf. Right, it's just a "teaching," a "popular idea," and a secular "religion." And the only reason all those pitiful ejukated people believe it is so they can go and do all the nasties they want and no one will call them on it. Even if you don't believe in evolution and do believe in creation, that should be enough to make you blanche. How about the notion that evolution is a science, not because it's presented in scientific-sounding language, but because its claims are falsifiable?? That it explains a range of natural phenomenon? That it's been demonstrated repeatedly in the lab AND under natural conditions? That it's used to predict natural events?

    Ech.
