Didn't hear this. Can it be verified? Who said it? Which talk? Outline?

Sounds unlikely to me that the GB actually said this, but it does sound like JW urban legends

I remember when I was a kid, many, MANY, moons ago --- hot cross buns were verboten. I hadn't thought of that in decades, but it's the truth (no, no, the REAL truth). My mother forbade me to eat them if offered at school.

Of course, the WT always *did* have a big hard-on for the Catholic Church, especially back in the day.

nugget,,, my ex's granny always made homemade pudding, with real custard and real brandy sauce. She was a Brit; a war-bride.

I really miss it .... and her.

Hmmm a recent thread here presented a list of mind-controll techniques, one of which was the control over the subjects diet. A few people stated that was the only technique the WT didn't use....well not anymore. 10 for 10 now!

Hey, theBGB --- also, let's talk about hot dogs and baloney --- omg,, BLOOD PRODUCTS!

Once the ball gets rolling, it's easy to find more and more manipulation ...

Actually it is very clever to wait until they put these periodical products in sale, can you imagine how much money they will save and still get their experience, without problems with conscience. After the feast they are, exactly as in old times, food that WAS food sacrificed to false gods but not anymore.

I must admit, I've been eating all this celebration foods in due celebration times, without feeling bad about it. On top of that I have then also many times taken advantage of this post-celebration sales, easter eggs and candies for sure.

Talesin if you ever need the taste of home I'll make you one and ship it. My recipe is a traditional one used by many of your granny's era. I can't promise it will taste as good as hers but it should be close.

They definitely said it. We had it towards the end of our 2 day Circuit Assembly last November. It was emphasised and repeated during the District Overseer's talk, and he said it was a direction from the Governing Body. He made a big thing of it. The principle applied to all foods created for certain times and festivities, and included, as well as Christmas puddings, Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies, absolutely anything with any kind of festivity association, so, anything for Hallowe'en, anything for any local festivities, etc.

It was all to do with Jehovah's name. Part of the same speech talked of taking Jehovah's name into everything we do, thus, don't watch porn because you sully J's name, violence, anything supernatural, magic is out, etc. Also texting, don't take his name in vain by saying OMG.

Basically, anything normally enjoyable by ordinary people is no longer to be indulged in.

Everybody, and I mean everybody around me and whom I heard discussing it afterwards were saying "Well, I've done it in the past but I never will again. No more cheap chocolate eggs after Easter" etc. I heard others say "I'll never eat Christmas pudding again". And by everyone I have to include my sorry brainnwashed self back then, because I was trying so hard to be a good JW.I actually deprived my family of the good things of Christmastime.

Last night I watched the film "Cabaret", on BBC2 late, and actually caught myself thinking "I shouldn't be watching this, I'm bringing J's name into disrepute".

Such is the power of the WT's brainwash and hypnosis.

I don't think our cong. is going to go along with it that much. One reg. pio. sister who is a bit of a rebel on the quiet and myself, a rebel elderette have already said we think it's going too far and saying exactly what we think of it. It's surprising how much it starts the R&F thinking when you actually come out and say how stupid you think something is.. most of them also think it's stupid and intend to be disobedient when no one's looking.. LOL The few that you say to about Paul and the sacrificed meat to idols, squirm and look uncomfortable because they know it's the GB against the apostle Paul.
