Draconian Rules for Attending "Special Convention"

Just wondering... if a person were to lose his/her superstar, "exemplary status", how on earth could the WTS prevent someone from taking a trip to anywhere on this planet, staying at any hotel he chooses (including the hotel for which he already has reservations and possibly a deposit) and attending any convention he opts to waste his time at? How much authority does this organization think it wields?

Are they going to call the hotel and dictate who can or cannot stay there? Will they try to cancel his airline reservations? Is it just a matter of not being able to wear his superstar name badge or would he face diciplinary action upon returning home from the trip?

What prevents anyone ( who has the funds) to get a ticket to Dublin?

Absolutely nothing. In fact, it was quite explicit in one of the letters read to the congregations that if you aren't invited, you should NOT attend (implying the Society was fearful that some uninvited JWs would show up anyway).

But if a JW did attend anyway, he'd quickly be ostracized for "not following theocratic order", and he might even lose any "special privileges" he had.

The Society of course can't prevent you from traveling where you want or staying where you want.

But the threat of being viewed as a pariah for "not following theocratic order" is a strong de-motivator for "unapproved" actions.

These conventions NEVER sounded like a good time to me.

Ive always been one of the rebels who immediately tore off my suit and tie at the hotel and wore shorts and no badge to dinner. I guess that's why I'm here. DOES NOT CONFORM.

Yuck. I can imagine just the kind of Witnesses who will salivate on realising that they qualify for for this offer while half the Witnesses at the Hall do not.

Paragraph 3 appears to me to be potentially in breach of disability discrimination laws in both the UK and Ireland.

Good point. The Watchtower has been a law unto itself for long enough. It would be great if a disabled Witness challenged this legally and won.

Suing the WTS can be the kiss of death. I know a jw that fell down on the ice in front of the KH that had not been salted or shoveled. Since the WTS is self-insuring they had to sue to get back their medical expenses and eventually money for what turned out to be a permanent injury. All the elders could talk about was how this jw was greedy and should just have eaten the cost.

I just sent an email about the exclusion of disabled people to this organisation:

    http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/

BluesBrother I wonder if you could scan the document in full - might be useful.

Sounds like they just wanted the super JWS who dress nice, have money and are healthy to attend, all others need not apply.

The WTS. have always been public image creators within their organization but this is gone far to the extreme.

I wonder if Jesus would be this selective when upon announcing a public talk ?
