Apostates right now are looking to a book called the Gentile Times Reconsidered as the next gospel, as it would indicate the date of the fall of Jerusalem being later than 607, which in turn would make null the chronology of 1914

This is typical WT word play. Once the word apostate is used, most 'dubs will pass on the rest. I haven't heard of anyone calling that publication the next gospel. It's just word play, or as has been put in the past, weasal words. There's no basis for that conclusion but it has all the magic words that 'dubs listen to.

I just read through that second to last paragraph...

    - Wondering about the light getting brighter

    - whether the governing body is scriptural

    - what Jesus meant by Faithful and Discreet Slave

    - how can the Bible reconcile the ice age

    - what is the correct understanding of "this generation"

    - what is the cry of peace and security

    - is the interpretation of the Revelation It's Grand Climax book really accurate

    - why are so many still claiming to be of the anointed

    - did Jesus start reigning in the First Century or in 1914

    - what was the purpose of the dinosaurs

    - does the Governing Body have the right to tell us not to practice oral sex

    - why can't we grow beards

    - can we consider those who commit apostasy as sinning against the Holy Spirit

    - did Rutherford have an affair with his secretary

    - what is the Sign of the Son of Man going to look like

    - did the Jews or the Romans kill Jesus

    - and so forth . . . and so forth . . .just gives us topics to speculate on and have really good discussions about.

He certainly is willing to overlook a lot isn't he? Would he be will willing to overlook all of these things if they came from another church, or would these things be proof positive that the any other church is false religion?

Oooooo, this is going to be fun....

First of all, these comments in his first paragraph leapt out at me... [symbolically.... no 'demunzzzz' involved!! ]

"The majority of people in the world are not of a scholarly bent. People hate to read. People hate to research things. Most people are content to simply be programmed with a singular line of thought. ...."

    Really?? REALLY?????

That's the kind of 'mark' - er, "convert" - er, "sheep-like one" - that the Watchtower Corporation is looking for...

And this numnuts can't even BEGIN to see it...

Nice observation Ziddina. He is really describing JWs to a T.

The people he calls 'apostate' are the ones most likely to dig deep. People here on JWN for example...

    - do much more scholarly research than JWs.

    - have read much more than JWs.

    - have researched more than JWs.

    - are not content to be programmed.

It's just amazing that JWs continue to think that they are the most thinking and educated people on earth.

Quote from a lawyer acquaintance of mine: "The more long-winded the defence, the bigger the lie".

Yeah I do get the impression he has done a lot of research into so called "apostate" teachings

The WTS. Publishing Corporation have always been apostate teachers opposing biblical Scripture but adversely presented to the public

coercively as bible truths in the vein of crass commercialism.

Whether one accepts this or not might be totally dependent upon that individuals personally integrity and honesty in face of the

    gathered upon evidence.

just gives us topics to speculate on and have really good discussions about

Really? Good luck finding a JW you can discuss that stuff with without getting reported to the thought police.

Knowing them or not knowing them or having an accurate understanding of them have no bearing on our relationship with Jehovah or our salvation through the ransom sacrifice and survival in the new order. I'm sure Abraham and Sarah had great discussions about who was the seed and what would happen. Job had his own theories of why he was suffering. The prophets would have considered it blasphemy if you would have told them that the nation of Israel would some day no longer be God's favored people. It wasn't knowledge or an accurate understanding that counted them as righteous. It was their faith. Many things are left unanswered at this time because it provides us an opportunity to demonstrate our faith.

What he says here and what he believes are undoubtedly very different. If "accurate knowledge," a.k.a. believing exactly what the JW's teach is the proper understanding of Bible principal is unimportant, then why do they place so much stress and emphasis on being part of their religion? Why do they teach that all other belief systems, differing even in the slightest manner, is Babylon the Great, which is inextricably linked to Satan?

The truth of the matter is, he's trying to have his cake and eat it too by saying it's unimportant to have an accurate knowledge, and yet it's of the utmost important to adhere to all of their teachings to be saved, two mutually exclusive and condtradictory ideas.

"My friend, if you walk away from the brotherhood, you are walking away from Jehovah."

    Um, no.

PS, There is one thing in particular missing from your elder buddies letter: coherence.
