A doctor friend told my husband that if you have meats that you are unsure about then cook
it till the temperature of the food reaches 85 deg C (185F) and anything harmful will be destroyed.....Hopscotch

    That is really bad advise..

If that doctor owned a restaurant..Eventually someone would get Food Poisoning..

There are very Strict Rules/Laws when you run a Professonal Kitchen..

OUTLAW, you beat me to it while I was writing this!
Isn't poultry to be kept heated at 165 F and hamburger 155 F, or is that just to bring it to that and then let it drop to 145?
Good to see some common sense here......White Dove

    Hey White Dove..

Food is kept at 40F or below..OR..140F or above..

    There are No Exceptions..

Sinis .........ecoli and samonella don't really have an odor!

    May I ask a question?

Have you ever had a bad case of food poisoning?

Yeppers... a few years ago eating food from another country. I knew there was a 50/50 chance it was bad, but, well, hunger gets the best of you... I'm sure this will be ok. Thanks! (If not I won't be posting for a few days... )

Actually..There is a 100% chance that Food is Bad..

If your used to eating like that, your body may have some resistance..

It`s only a matter of time before you become horribly sick and/or,kill yourself..

OUTLAW and Sinis: Once you've had the REAL DEAL food poisoning, you'll never take chances with food again. Like Outlaw, I felt as if I was near death. I lost more than 10% of my body weight in 48 hours and suffered incredible gastro-intestinal distress. I had abdominal pains that wouldn't ease, etc.

I would rather go hungry than take any chances, now.

Mild food poisoning is common and not such a big deal. Severe food poison kills.

    Proceed with caution.

    Oh yeah, Leavingwt!

I needed two toilets at the same time and also thought my whole body, not just my stomach, was caught in a vice tightened by the hand of God himself.

This pain lasted 5 days. Joint, muscle, and stomach pains from hell lasted that long.

    I couldn't even drive a car the 5th day.

My advice would to not proceed with that skull and crossbones chicken at all!

Fish and poultry are THEEE most dangerous of foods to mess with.

    You'd be safer eating blowfish.

I got it once from a shelter that served a huge cassarole of beans and another time from a bad McFish.

McDonald's doesn't completely cook their patties, just so you know.

They are expected to finish cooking on their own in an effing warmer. HAH!

Here's a gem: My dad has chronic stomach problems.

He's always on the verge of nausea and has diarhea a lot along with cramping.

He blames it on just having a bad stomach.

Guess how he prepares his food: He uses dirty dishes if a clean one is not handy.

And, he'll leave food out to be eaten later.

I'll bet my precious Egg on it that he is poisoning himself and has for years.

He says that he has a strong stomach and can eat that stuff.

    Refuses to make a connection.
