First, big deal. Why in hell do we need these fxxxing rules in the first place? Even though "fornication" is referring to unmarried people, do they really need to save it for marriage when they need to find out whether or not they are compatible? And there is always "brazen conduct" if the hounders start hounding couples to avoid sex practices that deviate from the standard.

Second, isn't this in the Asleep! rag? The Asleep! is distributed to the public, including to children. Bad enough to expose witless children to this (especially in a religion that so dirtifies sex). It might be acceptable if society viewed sex without dirtifying it. But, distributing this littera-trash to people including children without parents seeing it is objectionable. Would parents object to schools showing R-rated movies in first grade? Then, why is this littera-trash being shown to children both inside and outside the cancer?

Many JW parents actually withdraw their children from classes that deal with sex. Then they print this. Double standards as usual.

I'm sure the reference is to people not married to each other.

I feel for the elders who have to pry into the lives of people and extract the facts needed to set up a "pornia" case.

Yes, but I'm sure that it has been extended and used against married folks too.

Self-abuse = masturbation?! Uh, no. Self-abuse includes things like cutting oneself, burning oneself, and smashing your head against the wall.

The latter being what I want to do pretty much every time I read a Watchtower publication.

I am surprised they put something like this in one of their public PR magazines. Sounds more like something they would put in the Kool-aid edition of the WT.

Other than the definition in the footnote, is there any reference to where the definition comes from? Or is the reader just supposed to take on faith that the Awake! magazine knows how to define Bible words all on its own? (I already know the answer to this...)

There is no reference whatsoever as to where the definition came from including no references to previous mags. The whole article is mainly about homosexuality. It is there judgement call that defines it only and looking up definitions on the internet for pornei'a on the internet shows they have a limited understanding of the term (interestingly some believe it includes adultery). Personally, I think they have allowed there own prejudices and old fashioned worldly views get in the way in coming up with a definition as evidenced particularly by their stance regarding oral sex.

But because they did attempt to define fornication at the very least they should have clarified that it was talking about sexual acts between unmarried persons.
