Yeah, that is the way the saying goes. It also typically dies in the face of cheering crowds who are convinced that all the changes are good for them by charismatic leaders.

    Hindsight is always 20/20.

I kind of agree with UC and PSac. It's the cost of flying (to me) but it's just there to make us feel that they are doing something to keep me safe.

It does make it a wee bit harder to get a metal gun or an explosive device onboard, so I accept it. Besides, I cannot drive to Hawaii and boats are too slow.

I don’t like the body scan things. I already have a higher radiation exposure than the average person, and adding more makes me worry. The result is that I ask for the manual check. It does not bother me. After all I’ve been through in life having a TSA agent look at or feel my genitals is about as worrisome as soaking my worn out feet in warm salt water.

Get a life folks. The rest of the animal kingdom walks naked, has sex and defecates in full public view. While we are whining about having our junk checked Sparky the dog is trying to get off on the TSA agent’s foot!

Yes you have a right to privacy, to refuse searches, be secure in your person etc.

But you don't have a right to fly in an airplane.

So, what happens if 25% of the people decide NOT to fly because of this?

What happens when the airline industry takes THAT hit ??

    Interesting view by a scanner...

Okay... let's think about this for a second.

Have you ever people watched? Just sat on a bench and watched as people strolled by? An airport is the perfect place to watch people. Jim Morrison was right by the way... people are strange when you're a stranger...but I digress.

Anyhoo... out of the thousands of people who stroll by you as you sit at your gate while waiting for your flight...how many are "hot"? Male or female? I have an eye for good looking women...and I'm not ignorant of what women consider "hot" in most men. The rarity of a really "hot" person is enough that when you finally do see that "hot" individual it catches your attention. You pause, you take a second look... you continue to sneak looks if you can do it without looking like a perv (or letting your spouse catch you).

Now...all those thousands of people you see roaming around...everyone one of them have to go through security. Do you really think that these agents get their thrills from seeing one after the other of out of shape, fat, old, droopy, people going through their scanner? So what if one out of every few dozen comes through and has a nice body...male or female?

Personally, I think some people bitch about these scanners because they're one of the millions of out-of-shape rabble who don't want their muffin tops and flabby bellies to be seen... though some of them have no qualms about wearing clothes two sizes too small. Or maybe they're embarrassed about their brand of underwear...I dunno. Always save your best for flying. Tighty whities are out on travel day...

With porn so readily and easily available I don't get this percieved notion of dirty ole agents getting their kicks by seeing an xray of someone, hot or not. If I wanna see a hot girl with no clothes on, I'll stop in the newstand by the gate and buy a Playboy. They can too.

I don't normally pull the anecote thing to make a point, but this one is perhaps needed.

A former Army buddy of mine works for CISIS now ( Canadian CIA/NSA), a few years ago he was part of a quality control group that evaluated the airport security in Canada, just like the US government has guys that do that too over there on random basis.

He pretty much got whatever he wanted onto the plane, including "potential" explosives.

And yes, he was patted and did the X-ray.

We got soem advice from the Israelis about airport security and the advice was typically ignored because it was more human based and less technolgy based and consisted on "racial profiling" and a expensive computer intelligence netwrok.

In other words, patting and scanners are cheaper and look more impressive, even if they don't do much.
