"Consider other examples: ....there is strong circumstantial evidence and there may be elements of brazen conduct. The innocent mate's conscience may allow [him or] her to choose to divorce and remarry; the elders would not take action against [him or] her for making this decision."

Wow... this is a change (I know first-hand it's gone back and forth over the decades). Oh, how my life would have been different. What a difference just a couple of years makes.

Reading this probably just ruined my day.

Evidence (testified to by at least two witnesses)
that the accused stayed all night in the
same house with a person of the opposite sex
(or in the same house with a known homosexual)
    under improper circumstances.-

This is virtually unchanged from the '91 edition.

Apparently, in Watchtower World, sex still only happens at night, and only in houses.

To play devil's advocate for a moment... they do say "under improper circumstances". They actually give examples of where some situations would not be improper, such as the example of the guy who missed the last train and he slept on a sister's couch...or the guy staying with a married couple and the husband is called away overnight thus leaving the two in the house.

I don't remember if the old book covered that, but it seems...on the surface... that they're trying to leave room for intrepretation of the rule.

OTOH... the fact that they have to go to such lengths to try to explain the difference between proper and improper shows how legalistic they've become. Common sense is being bred out of the newer generation of dubs and their elder leaders...

    • Willful, continued, unnecessary association
    with disfellowshipped nonrelatives despite
    repeated counsel.-Matt. 18:17b; 1 Cor. 5:11, 13;
    2 John 10, 11; w81 9/15 pp. 25-26.

    • Child sexual abuse: This would include fondling
of breasts, an explicitly immoral proposal,
showing pornography to a child, voyeurism, indecent
    exposure, and so forth.

So in the Governing Body's warped mind, having dinner or a friendly chat with a life-long friend who got disfellowshipped for putting up a Christmas tree for his kids, is no different than a man who rapes children.

There are simply no words for the idiocy of these men.

This means 2 elders sitting in a car outside your house all night.....that hasn't changed.

Which is called 'stalking', which is illegal. If I ever saw elders do this to me and I would not hesitate to phone the police, have them charged and then call the newspaper to give them the story. That would put a nice little dent in their reputation, at least locally.

Yup. So any JW who works third shift is in the clear if he crashes at his honey's place for the day!

IMHO, this has little to do with WHEN the sex happens, etc. It's simply about the WT image, in the eyes of both the congregation AND the non-JW community.

They don't want any of their members -- who are all "ordained ministers" in their own words -- to even have the appearance of impropriety.
