Fragile X is not a "made up" condition. It can be detected on the chromosomes with DNA testing. As medical knowledge and testing become more advanced, doctors are able to diagnose many more conditions, that in the past when undiagnosed, or misdiagnosed. There are many mildly autistic children that probably fell through the cracks in centuries past, and were just labelled slow, retarded, or weird. It was also first considered a psychological condition and blamed upon the mother being cold and unloving. Medicine has come a long way in the last 50 years.

An analogy can be made to the explosion of earthquakes in recent years. This is not because there is an actual increase in earthquakes. It is because the number of earthquake detectors around the world has risen from around 300 - 3000. They are also much more sensitive and can detect small earthquakes.

Medical testing and diagnostic equipment is the same. Because statistics can be misrepresented or manipulated, especially to those who do not know the subject or understand statistical analysis, scientific studies must go through peer review, before they can be published in medical or scientific journals. Unfortunately, the same is not true of statistics published and conclusions drawn in the popular media.

The media is not a credible source of information. They are ratings whores.

Wasn't there recently a lawsuit that found just the opposit?

The Bailey decision is not an isolated ruling. We now know of at least two other successful ADEM cases argued in Vaccine Court. More significantly, an explosive investigation by CBS News has found that since 1988, the vaccine court has awarded money judgments, often in the millions of dollars, to thirteen hundred and twenty two families whose children suffered brain damage from vaccines. In many of these cases, the government paid out awards following a judicial finding that vaccine injury lead to the child’s autism spectrum disorder. In each of these cases, the plaintiffs’ attorneys made the same tactical decision made by Bailey Bank’s lawyer, electing to opt out of the highly charged Omnibus Autism Proceedings and argue their autism cases in the regular vaccine court. In many other successful cases, attorneys elected to steer clear of the hot button autism issue altogether and seek recovery instead for the underlying brain damage that caused their client’s autism

LWT do you believe that all the vaccines recommended are actually necessary or beneficial?

I have zero opinion on the autism/vaccine angle, I have read nothing on the subject.

    I'm pro-choice on medical decisions.

Personally, I follow the recommendations of my licensed pediatrician.

You don't do any research on your own? Trust him/her completely?

Well, I did more research than you.

I asked a few questions when my first child was an infant. We haven't had any negative reactions, yet. I've read the headlines on the topic and I've read a few articles. I read the CDC handouts from the doctor's office.

MOST of the medical and scientific communities in multiple industrialized nations share the views of my pediatriciain. I have placed a great measure of trust in him.

And you better mister! My "kids" are 25 and 23, I don't need to research! The autism question hadn't been raised when they were little.

I just find it a bit disconcerting that in the last 20 years, the number of vaccinations being recommended has ..........tripled? One I think illustrates the fact that there is more to it than "need", or "health" or preventing some horrible epidemic. That's chicken pox. It doesn't last. And the illness itself isn't life threatening, and it's much much worse for an adult. So what possible reason is there to get it? Yet it's on the list. I think it's purely about money.

LOL, neither of these questions need be either/or.

    (a) medical advancement (b) conspiracy

Medical advancement and the bottom line.

It really depends on which vaccines you're talking about. I don't believe they are all the same. Which is the more important medical discovery? (a) Penicillin (b) Viagra
