may you all have peace... and, again, you really SHOULD find out before you declare... and tell others... that such things do not occur in our great country:

    http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local&id=7603420

Happens ALL the time to less... shall we say, "economically desirable" persons. The saying that "money can't buy everything" is alive and well...

    Again, peace to you!

Yeah I used to hear about that. How sometimes the neighbors would ask the sellers not to sell to blacks. Apparently having black people on the block lowers property value. It's funny that considering how difficult they say it is for people to sell in this market that they would allow their prejudice to reject qualified buyers. Cutting off their nose to spite their face, I think.

I live in the most expensive neighborhood in my city. (Bought a very neglected fixer-upper.) My backyard neighbors are black. It has no effect on our property values.

What people should be concerned about is how well people maintain their properties. That's what should really affect the property values.

This kind of racism is just stupid. We're all one big family. As my JW mother always said, "We are all related. We all trace our lineage back to Noah." I'm not saying I believe there was an actual Noah's Ark but you get the gist.

I hate to say this but I'm glad that this happened to the Willborns and not just Joe Schmoe. They have enough money and, as a radio personality, they have the platform to make this known throughout the nation and bring attention to what is happening.

It is possible that the story is accurate. It may be as Serenitynow suggests.

BUT.... 1 point something Million Dollars!!!! (close to their asking price of 1.8 Million) is an awful lot of money to turn down in a bad seller's market.
There are factors missing from the simple short story and the sellers are not prepared to come forward with their version. I can't blame them for not speaking to the media yet as the media may barbeque them.

I have trouble believing it is the major factor in such "high rent" districts. Now, if it were a $300,000 house, (still pretty high) then I could see prejudice coming upon a buyer who feels he will have spoiled the neighborhood and will have trouble selling other units to non-blacks.

I could be wrong, but I would hold out on passing judgment here.

Wow!!! I wouldn't have that this type of blatant discrimination could occur in Chicago. It wouldn't surprise me in the southern states!

But hey! I'm a Brit what do I know?

The neighborhood my folks live in, where I grew up is a mix of people, working class. My dad told me prior to my parents moving there, a couple across the street told all the white neighbors not to sell to niggers. Fast forward to 2010, and both my folks and those neighbors still live there. The best part though, those neighbor's grandkids grew up, and both married black dudes. I came home to help my dad with some things, and looked across the street, and my mouth dropped. The black son-in-law was walking into the house like he owned the place. White kids and tan kids playing in the front yard, and the grandmother looked perplexed.

cantleave, racial discrimination in the Northern states is just as prevalent as in the Southern states. The difference is that, in the Northern states, people are generally nice to your face so you don't know if they're prejudiced against you or not. In the South, people are more open about their racism. I've lived in both the North and South and it is interesting to see the difference but underneath it's all the same.

If the Sellers have a legit reason, tell it, talk, clear it up

No cantleave, that is a common misconception. Racism does not just occur in the south. It's everywhere, it always has been.
