Sad to say that racism still exists. And it does seem silly that people would not sell their property to a buyer because of race during bad economic times, but because of racism people would rather hurt themselves than help another race.

Dearest Cantleave (peace to you!), the record is [Martin Luther King Jr.'s] open housing marches in Chicago were greeted with what he characterized as "the most hostile and hateful" demonstration of white racism he had ever witnessed, more violent even than Selma or Birmingham.
May you all note that I did not bring this matter up to inflame, but to once again disspell the lies, half-truths, and disbeliefs of those who don't know... but should. Like, perhaps, dear OTWO, here, for whom I offer the following:
"The family's real estate broker says the seller's agent told her they preferred not to sell the house to an African-American. They then took the house off the market..." and
"ABC7 was unable to reach the sellers, Daniel and Adrienne Sabbia, for a response. An official with their real estate company, Prudential Rubloff Properties, declined to comment."
And...
"The attorney for the Wilborns says he sees numerous instances of housing discrimination around the country but usually more subtle than this case."
Get a clue, dear one, as your "intelligence" demands it. Otherwise, you really MUST stop taking shots at mine... or risk me belieiving you something worse than an atheist: a hypocrite...
I bid you all peace!

That's what courts call hearsay. They may be telling the absolute truth, or even just the truth as they thought they heard it. But I bet you dollars to donuts that eventually the statement will be denied. A court would not allow such hearsay.
"ABC7 was unable to reach the sellers, Daniel and Adrienne Sabbia, for a response. An official with their real estate company, Prudential Rubloff Properties, declined to comment."
I would almost always decline to comment, at least initially or until I had an official statement. It's not auto-guilt. News media loves to play that kind of statement all the time.
"Have you stopped beating your wife? Yes or no?" asked the press of the governor. The governor declined to comment.

I accept the statement made by the attorney.
No shots were fired at your intelligence.
Wow, such love and premature judgment from a believer in the Holy Spirit- a hypocrite for reserving judgement. That would make you a great elder(ette) for such a rush to judgement. -

I bet you dollars to donuts that in order to save his/her own butt, the seller's agent will absolutely tell this truth, when deposed. And that as a result, the case will NEVER go to court (so the whole hearsay thing is moot), which is why you DON'T know about these things, because... like the WTBTS... they are virtually ALWAYS settled out of court. How do I know? Because I am the Fair Housing Program Director for my agency. It is what I currently DO: bring complaints against sellers/landlords for this very thing...

I would wager another dozen donuts that such declination was simply pending the real estate company's attorney negotiating a settlement for IT... for IT'S part in this incident... because that company stands to lose its license as well as suffer criminal penalties. Yet, if they give up a client, they could well lose a host of others. SO... it will negotiate a settlement which result in some compensation to the buyers in exchange for HUD removing them from the matter...
"Have you stopped beating your wife? Yes or no?" asked the press of the governor. The governor declined to comment.
What, you're offering this to say that governor wasn't beating his wife? Or that he declined to comment as to whether he'd STOPPED? Not the same thing, dear OTWO...
No shots were fired at your intelligence.
Sure, there were. You believe (or want others to believe) that I would frivolously post an article that set forth totally unsubstantiated allegations and paint these "poor" sellers in such a bad light "just because." Which is quite an unintelligent... and hateful... thing to do. So, let's be truthful here.
But so that YOU know the truth, I didn't just happen upon this on the Internet. It was sent to ALL fair housing agencies in the country (I received mine from the Region IX headquarters in San Francisco), because it has direct relation to what I do as does the outcome of the case (which again, will virtually be a settlement, perhaps even a "confidential" one...). AND so that we in fair housing enforcement do not FORGET that such practices are alive and well in our great country. It's my agency's business to know about it... as well as file complaints when it happens here...
Wow, such love and premature judgment from a believer in the Holy Spirit- a hypocrite for reserving judgement. That would make you a great elder(ette) for such a rush to judgement.
I believe they call that a "red herring," dear OTWO. I call it a sorry attempt to misdirect the discussion by questioning my integrity, but if that's what you believe you need to do... go for it. I am confident, however, that my love speaks for itself these days.
Again, peace to you.

you really SHOULD find out before you declare... and tell others... that such things do not occur in our great country:
Who has said this, exactly? That's a bit of a strawman, don't you think? Some people actually prefer to hear both sides, and hear all the facts before passing judgment. This in no way equates to denying that racial discrimination exists.
You can always cry racism first, and apologize later, I suppose. That's certainly easier. But some people prefer to get it right the first time.

Talk about red herring.
... and, again, you really SHOULD find out before you declare... and tell others...
That's the part I was following by commenting here. I was waiting to find out before I condemned these people.
"No shots were fired at your intelligence."
I stand by that statement still. It is what I currently DO: bring complaints against sellers/landlords for this very thing...
So you know this stuff exists. That doesn't make you the expert on what this particular seller said and intended.
Look Missy, I am not defending these people. They may be guilty. I don't know any more than you. I am reserving judgement. That's all. I just happen to think that in such a lousy economy, anyone's green one point something million dollars is more important than their skin color, so I cannot automatically assume the story is correct. I don't say that the buyer is lying either. The "governor" statement was just an example of how declining to comment can happen. It wasn't even the sellers that had refused to comment as they were not reached. It was An official with their real estate company, Prudential Rubloff Properties, [who] declined to comment." How can Prudential Rubloff answer for their client? It isn't their mess and they ain't digging in it. Either their client said it or their client did not, so they need to contact their attorney and their client to stay the hell out of it the best they can.
I must apologize for stating my opinions on your thread when they were not to your liking. From now on, I will wait until the Holy Spirit is done telling you what to think, then let it (him, her???) tell me what to think. There's your red herring.

Actually, Aguest I must agree that you seem to be making a rush to judgment; at least about OTWO's rationale for his viewpoint.
Get a clue, dear one, as your "intelligence" demands it. Otherwise, you really MUST stop taking shots at mine... or risk me belieiving you something worse than an atheist: a hypocrite...
There is so much that is wrong with the above remarks- but what I really cannot understand is how they could be immediately followed by this:
I bid you all peace!

On the subject of red herrings, the USDA secretary was recently removed from her position for "out-of-context" comments of hers posted on youtube that appeared racist. They weren't even hearsay statements, she made them. But when it was revealed that the comments were not intended as racist comments but were made by an anti-racist, well then.... who was sorry they rushed to judge her?
That is all. Go ahead and flame flame flame away at me. You've made me look better than I could do myself. Good day.

For Those Who Don't Know (and you will know who you are)
non sequitur... or, in English: WTF?
If someone doesn't know then how will they know who they are, these that don't know?
I read the article. Yes, this does happen...and not just to blacks but to hispanics, Chinese, Koreans...any number of races that might be different than the established neigborhood.
It's against the law to for Realtors to redline and reputable real estate brokers/agents do not practice it. Even if the homeowners chose to not sell for the alleged reason, I can't see the real estate firm being liable for anything. They can't make people sell their houses... The agent put all this work into it and ain't gonna get a dime. I'd say they're pissed too...for monetary reasons.
I'm with OTWO on this. Not enough info to rush to judgment. Just because these people think they were refused the sell because they were black doesn't mean that's the case.
