And by the way, my draft number was 6, lucky me.

I'm talking toward the end of the draft when the draft boards were getting more lenient in classifications.
And on CO classification? A friend of mine was assigned to non-military duty by the courts. So you are right, "if" you were ordered to do it, it was okay to do the duty, but "if" you did it voluntary, you were disciplined??? (as he scratches his head in disbelief)

Right - I think I got through the end of eligibility in 1970 - didn't the draft technically last until around 1974 or so?

And, again, that "if ordered to do CO" is still so unbelievable that it is matched only by the 1990s change to just let everybody do CO anyway (when there was no draft) and an article telling people who went to jail over this that "they were acting on their own."

    CYBER JESUS-

HOLY JUMPING JEHOVAH! Are we lacking reading comprehension or what?

You can be a tree hugging anti war hippie for all I know, but if you have some insight regarding this subject without letting your emotions run wild screaming @ everyone who wants to serve in the military a so called " baby killer", then I gladly listen to ya'. It's that simple.

I don't know how to make this any clearer.

And to all of those with the kind comments, thanks. But, I'll wait and see when I'm in front of MEPS, pass the screening, boot camp and AIT before I pat myself on the back. :) It's one thing wanting to serve, but hopefully I'm allowed to.

BTW- Very good info regarding the draft. I only can imagine what my father-in-law had to deal with when he was in prison for 13 months durng the Veitnam war.

At 32 years of age, family man and rased in this country for most of my life, I'm well aware of the sacrafice I will have to make when I do sign up, including the deployment over seas.

Seems pretty selfish on your part. Your willing to die fighting a pointless war and leave your children fatherless all to help a country you weren't even born in steal oil from Iraq and take over Afghanistan.

I can see years of Watchtower indoctrination still haunts some of you with your hasty generalizations and quick to judge attitude.

Well that was a hasty general on your part. I actually signed up for the marines before I becamce a witness and was 2 days away from boot camp when I learned all the bs about the military and how they treat pawns soilders which made me change my mind.

Yes, I do belive I can contribute more to this coutry serving as a soldier

Or you can just leave and go back to whatever gutter trash third world country you came from and try to make that better. The last thing we need here is more dumb gun happy soilders killing inocennt people.

    Blue grass-

First, it's you're, not your. Keep that in mind. Typing fast didn't keep you from making that error.

2nd- Let me reveal to you, my BIRTH father was born in california and was in the US army at the time at my birth. My JW PIONEER mother and ELDER STEP FATHER who kept on pushing about how JEHOBAH hate liars, decided to lie to me for nearly 30 years of my life who my real father was. Luckily I was finally able to meet him and 4 other brothers. But unfortunatley all of this went down after the fact applying for citizenship.

So technically, I'm US Citizen at birth. But since it requires me to travel back to my birth country, PANAMA, request a hearing at the consulate, and along with my birth father, so on so forth, it's a long drawn out beuacratic process. I'm ok with being naturalized. As far as enlisting in the army reserve, that was a family decsison, not mine alone. If the wife didn't support it, chances are, we wouldn't have this discussion.

Since I got that out of the way, you can literally go fuck yourself, BLUE GRASS. I dont know you from a hole in the wall, but you're real a peice of work.

Are you serious? So where am I wrong in my assumption, LOL. You pussied out and realize with 2 days to ship out to boot camp, LOL, that you were going to be ordered around by drill instructors as they see fit? And then you became a witness and you couldn't see thru that BS? That's your fucking choice, albeit a little slow in the decision process. And I garauntee you wouldn't say that to any soldier's face. Your E- BALLS don't count in the real world.

This right here has to be the most asinie comment I've read so far in the past year in all of the forums I'm a member of. You're propably the most ignorant person I've dealt with on the net. You don't make generalizations? So let me get this straight. According to your logic, every soldier is "dumb gun happy killing innocent people"?

Again, you've proved my point, you idiot.

    To everyone else-

My intention of starting this thread was to ask for advice on how to approach CO subject, not if I should serve in the military. If you want to keep posting your anti-military comments labling me as the worst of the worst, I'll respond in kind. That's all.

Actually everything I said to you I already said to 3 drill sergeants, and one of them was a sergeant major. I'm not a good fit for the military because I can't play the role of someone's bitch. They got in my face and I got right back in theirs and that caused a whole bunch of problems with my recruiters. You however seem like you would be a good bitch for the military to use. I'm certainly not a pussy. Only a pussy would stand there and let a drill sergeant talk to them anyway they want, which you seem to be so willing to accept. Maybe you secretly love being dominated by men, who knows?

And then you became a witness and you couldn't see thru that BS?

Actually I left the witnesses only 4 months after be baptized, so I saw through it pretty quickly.

You see, BLUE GRASS, your true colors are coming out. Let me explain:

Actually everything I said to you I already said to 3 drill sergeants, and one of them was a sergeant major. I'm not a good fit for the military because I can't play the role of someone's bitch.

First off, you're a LIAR. If you never made it to boot camp, how is it possible to deal with a drill sergeant at that level?

2nd LIE - You said you've signed up for the marines (Good choice, I'm too old for the marines age limit for USMC reserv. is 28) . Marines do not call their Drill instructors, "Drill sergeants". If you gonna lie, get your shit straight.

hey got in my face and I got right back in theirs and that caused a whole bunch of problems with my recruiters.

Again, your E-BALLS don't count for shit in the real world and already discredited yourself by your lies. WHAT ARE YOU, 8?

    I'm certainly not a pussy.

    I certainly beg to differ.

Only a pussy would stand there and let a drill sergeant talk to them anyway they want, which you seem to be so willing to accept. Maybe you secretly love being dominated by men, who knows?

Well, yeah! You know, it's my thing. Something about men in uniforms, MMM! *rolleyes* Obviously, you don't know your ass from your elbow about the military and now I even question the validity of your story even signing up. You're a sad individual and not sure why you even posted to begin with.

And as far the video, some one else posted it and does show the horrors of war. There's nothing glamorous about it. But it's war and shit happens. Will I ever be in that situation? I hope not. But then again, the aviation MOS I'm shooting for, (no pun intended) could involve anything from medium transport, escort and support to humanitarian missions.

Sad really that I actually have to explain this. Crazy I tell ya.

Good luck, I'd say go ahead and say you never were one.

I took the ASVAB when I was about 16 at Vo-Tech(naughty I know), and sometime later there was an USAF recruiter there who said that based on my test results I could join and do pretty much whatever I wanted to do, but the JW side won out and I obviously never joined. One of my regrets.
