Should I post here anymore?

I stumbled across this site in pain looking for the official WT site for information. I never did quite make it. From this site I found links to much hard-hitting information which caused me to embark upon my own personal research.

To tell the truth, although I enjoy much of the research here, I mainly come to this discussion board for the banter among the ex-jws and for updates to the goings on at the WTBTS. Initially, I was thrilled to discover other like-minded individuals and that they (most of them, at any rate) were not demonized losers bent on attacking true witnesses. I am extrememly grateful to read the comments, research and whatever of all the posters on this site. This board was a lifeline to me for several weeks after I turned my back on wts.

I have tried on a couple of occasions to 'engage' some of the established posters but, with the exceptions of a few of them, I was largely ignored. So, I mainly stick to just reading posts every now and again and try to duck and hide from the venomous posters.

On the side, I would like to express my appreciation to cowboy and outnfree who always greet new posters in a cordial manner in chat.

    Mindchild,

Please keep posting. I, like yrs2long, enjoy the research you and others do. I have been out for 18 years. I have no literature. No bible. I came here to see if I was crazy or the dubs were. I am convinced they are. I know I did the right thing by leaving them....after reading numerous posts that had lots of research and information. I really appreciate the efforts of yourself and others who are trying to help people like myself.

Your sense of humor is great also. You have put some lovely lighthearted stuff on that made me smile. That is great.

    Regards,
    Puffs, aka Tina

I don't know what you expect Mindchild! Its a busy board and everyone has their own idea of what is deserving. There is a fair avalanche of posted material that swamps the board. I would keep posting. Its your choice.

I've been on this board nearly from the beginning, and it seems to go through cycles. From time to time, someone will post some research that just strikes everyone, and there will be lots of comments.

Then, things tend to settle back into a frivolous mode. Nothing wrong with this in my estimation.

I used to enjoy doing tons of research. I've burned out on it. I spend all day thinking and problem solving, and when I have some leisure time, I enjoy just "hanging out" with people.

As Yrs2long mentioned, she found plenty of links to sites devoted exclusively to research. She comes here to associate, and a major part of association is "fluff".

Perhaps part of the problem is that some of the "worthwhile" topics were worthwhile only to a few. Others just didn't feel like rehashing things they had already settled in their own minds, or perhaps they just didn't find the subject interesting.

This place is full of different pp who have a variety of interests. I think one way it stands out is that it has a lot of ppl here who enjoy the commonality and shared experiences of being exjw's but who have also come to grips with the fact that they were basically duped by a bunch of old men in brooklyn.

A lot of us here aren't looking for some validation for being ex-jw's. We just realize it's who we are and we like to talk to ppl who share our perspective. All of us aren't looking for a savior post, that clears up something we've strugggled with due to the WTS. Cause, believe it or not some of us aren't struggling! We just realize what happened to us, and we have decided to move on. So some may not be for the constant rehashing of WTS failings and so forth.

However, I'm not saying that this work doesn't have it's place. A lot of ppl benefit from it. I have. I read alot of Farkel and AlanF's work on Randy Watters' site(I didn't know who the hell, they were at the time). I've read a lot of other ppls works from other places as well. It's a good thing and will no doubt continue to benefit ppl who are suffering because of WTS policies.

There's alot about the current thinking among 'intellectual' posters that I don't get. It could be due to the tremendous gap in IQ points, or educational levels. However, to ask a board whether or not they want u to continue posting is a bit silly and comes across in the least as insecure. This is a place u chose to hang out at. You came here cause u wanted too. Therfore u should post what u want and what u feel. Two posters that do that imo, are Fredhall and Englishman. Sure they are at two different ends of the spectrum, but they both have managed to carve their own little niches in JW.com and don't need any validation from anyone.

    Hey,
Well thank all of you for your sometimes very in-depth responses, even if I didn’t like them.

The people I agree completely with what they said:
    1. Essie
    2. Saint Satan
    3. Hy Tech
    4. Name Withheld
    5. James
    6. Andi (you hit the nail directly Andi, that is why I’m asking these questions. I found that my expectations and hopes were not being realized and I’m now trying to discover the value of my own participation and at what extent.)
    7. Proplog2 (ah but this place is becoming too successful, and there in lies the growing problems…too many fish in a small pond
    8. Waiting (if it were not for some of the cool friendships I already made here, I would be long gone.)
    9. Ginny (what an awesome response…thank you!)
    10. Yrs2long
    11. ISP
    12. Red Horse Woman

Those I have only minor differences with:
    1. Radar (I think this place is changing Radar but it is heading in a direction of becoming bigger, less tolerant and caring, more dysfunctional, more trolls and drama queens, but at the same time there are new interesting people coming in, a few intelligent posters, some good humor, and the opportunity to make new friends. It’s a mixed bag for sure.)
    2. Cowboy (the only different view we might have is that unless this place is cyclic in nature, the general trend will follow the examples of other online ex-dub communities and become just a hangout to socialize with your own group of fans. There will be too many people to address the mass audience. Sheesh we have about 4000 posters now.)
    3. Princess (my original intention though in becoming a member of this forum was to see if I could impart information that would help others in their personal evolution. We can do that generically to a degree by just being a community of friends but it doesn’t have as much weight as carefully researched and damming information against the Society. But fluff isn’t all that bad either Princess as it is just a way to enjoy your friendship with others. I can see that too.
    4. Mum (If you reread my introduction to my post you should be able to see that I’m asking questions not acting out a drama. If I knew what I wanted to do already, I would have just vanished, maybe with a few goodbyes privately.)
    5. Bigboi (Different strokes for different folks. I wanted feedback, I asked, I got it. This wasn't a going away post. More like is there really any point in trying to change the growing trend towards noise.)

    Those that need a spanking:

    1. Mr. Moe and Tina (for having poor tastes of humor for liking my stuff)
    2. Uncle Bruce (Dude I swear I don’t know what planet you live on at times. Not trying to put you down really, just don’t understand why someone’s personal choices about participation would effect you, especially since I was asking for feedback about changing my thinking. Maybe it is either a cultural thing where you try to lay a guilt trip on me or maybe I pressed an emotional hot button of yours but I’m not saying fluff is bad…I’m just questioning if it is a lost cause for me to make any future serious posts in such a large site that is growing more chaotic all the time and has more mean people in it. So, please chill out and don’t feel like I’m putting you down or anyone else who enjoys fluff…hell, I posted lots of fluff.)
    3. Xena (Hmm, sorry but I don’t spend hours of time doing research and typing up a post for me… normally that is. This time I am, because I want something out of it. I’m also a bit disappointed that somehow you got the impression that I thought you were “inferior.” I have no idea where that comes from. Please note my comments to Uncle Bruce immediately above about fluff. Additionally I might add that I’m asking only about my own participation, getting feedback of others about the value of spending time doing more serious posts. The general consensus seems to be negative and that’s what I’m feeling too for doing anymore involved posts. I’m sorry you think I’m trying to put you down but that idea is your own invention, not mine. I can see that you are angry at me but really, is this aimed as an incentive for me to stay if you hate me? Maybe I should go?)
    4. Dusty (aka GDW) Well you get a spanking just on principal. LOL But if I work really hard, and do lots of careful research in looking at what you said, maybe I will find something to justify it…but do you really want me too?

Okay…sorry but that was my last serious post. Mindchild has retired from posting anything substantial. I have too many other irons in the fire, would rather spend my time associating with the good friends I’ve already made and perhaps some new ones. I will mostly hang in chat when the time allows but if anyone wants to dialog, just drop me an email.

True, true. You did get quite a bit of feedback. One thing theI've stopped doing is reading the entire thread before I post. It helps me to avoid the feeling that I'm just being repetitive. U see a lot of intelligent folk congregate here. Most of the time they get to posts long before I do and they say what I would sa far better than I ever could, at least imo. Now, I try to just respond to the original post. It helps. It really does! LOL!

Your "growing trend toward noise"statement was an interesting one. I happen to feel that there is more than enough room here for the silly and the serious. I see no reason why the two categories of posts/posters can't co-exist. The opposite of that statement is what I feel that you are subtly asserting, yet you fail to offer anything of substance as to why both cannot exist.

Farkel mentioned in his departing post that there was nothing that convinced him that the majority of ppl here could be 'reached'. yet, all around him were ppl imploring him to stay. Mentioning how much they appreciated him, the posts of his they've saved and benefitted from in one way or another. The same canbe said for most of the (for lack of a better expression) 'intellectual' posters that have saw fit to leave this forum in recent days and months. If that is not reaching ppl, then what is? I just don't understand what exactly y'alls point is.

This board is comprised of a very versatile group of ppl. At least among the active posters anyways. I've seen ppl particpate in some of the funniest discussions and then turn around and offer some of the most thought-rovoking experiences or insights I've ever had the pleasure to read. That's the only reason I stay here. It's all the reason I need really, I mean what more can I ask? What more can anyone ask?

    JWD. Keep bringin da noise!!!
