"I'm thinking of a big pig sticker for general household use."
So what do you do in your house?
I have had a USMC KABAR for many years. It is durable and sharp. A carbon steel blade is good for resharpening and olds a fine edge gfor a long time. And you can get one for around $50

AH, a fellow emerson fan !
I knew I liked DD for a reason !
LOL!
Spyderco has some nice folders, but for the "wave" action, emerson is the best.
When deciding on a fex blade you need to be honest as to what you wanna use it for.
SOG knives are excellent as is the above K-bar, pretty much in high tensile strength blade in Carbon Steel is good, they are strong and easy to sharpen.
I have a back ground in Pekiti-tirsia Kali and Inosanto Kali ( Filipino MA) and if you ever figure using a knife to protect yourself and wanna focus on a fixed blade, you need to find a nice, comfortable and easily carryable double edged blade.
I like a serrated knife for cutting any sort of bread type product so those pig sticker types don't 'cut it' ( ) for this task imho. I have a Pampered Chef's serrated knife (like this):

Do you own any Emersons?
