  I would think that it would behoove any/all JW Apologists here to provide a proper response to Mary's post. Not snipets of disagreement or snide/non-arguments; but a well put together essay addressing all the points made by Mary and why they think they are not true or do not apply. Barring any kind of such a response, how can any JW apologist response be taken seriously?

  Shunning is multi-purpose.

  There is control, there is some revenge. There is fear of being shunned that keeps some from leaving or speaking up.
  
  Primarily, shunning separates the faithful from those that leave. This keeps them from accepting any valid reasons to leave from those that did leave. So primarily, shunning is a protection for the cult.

  If a human has revenge, he is sinning and not shunning correctly. Shunning is a form of neutrality. Revenge is NOT.

  They won't because they can't and they know it. This is a recurring theme with JW apologetics like Spike and Reniaa. They shoot their mouths off, quote a couple of scriptures, and when you prove to them using either the bible, the WTS's own publications or other historical proof, they simply ignore it.

  As mentioned before though, their sad and pathetic posts and their inability to provide anything that backs up their claims, is actually a good thing for any JW who may be lurking here.

  Shunning for any other reasonbesides those explicitly mentioned in the bible is not a neutral act; it is an act of loyalty to the WTBTS and done so out of fear.
