From JW proclaimers Yahoo group. The man should be ashamed for sending it to a landfill. A responsible person would recycle all those dead trees.

A day or two ago I took my dog out for a walk. On my way back I walked
past a dumpster at the apartment building where I live. I was shocked
at what I saw. In the dumpster there were a bunch of bound volumes. I
found an empty shopping cart and used it to take them home. There were
so many that I filled the shopping cart and had them piled up high
enough I had to be careful taking them home so I wouldn't hit a bump and
cause some to fall off. I had to leave another dozen or so behind.
They were either too close to the bottom or were covered in the sort of
stinky stuff you find in a dumpster baking in 108 degree heat.
I used a roll of paper towels and half a bottle of window cleaner
getting the crud off the books I brought in. I now have most of the
Watchtowers dating back to 1951 as well as Awakes from 62, 63,64, and
most of the 70s, 80s and all of the 90s and this decade from both magazines.
I talked to the guy who did it. He said he had the Watchtower library
on his computer and wanted to save space in his flat.
Maybe I'm missing something but it seems this guy needs a good talking
to by someone more qualified than me. A lot of people at Bethel worked
hard to get those bound volumes, the indexes from 1930 onward as well as
the Mankind's search for God book from a giant roll of paper to the
finished book. Also a lot of people donated their hard earned money to
the cause.
This brother could have at least asked me if I wanted them, but he
didn't. I would have gone to his place and picked them up. Also it can
be said that my dog had more of an interest in them than their former
owner did. While I was wiping the crud off one, Mamie was sniffing a
stack I had finished with. Then I saw her licking one. I got the book
that grabbed her attention and found that I missed a spot when I was
cleaning it.
If any of you have some bound volumes you don't want anymore: please ask
around at the congregation if anyone else is interested. Also you may be
able to take them to the hall. I've heard several announcements over
the years that someone had brought in some bound volumes or books they
no longer needed and that these were in the library for anyone who
wanted them. Obviously since you're reading this, you probably have a
computer, but please keep in mind that others in the congregation don't
have one so they aren't able to use the Watchtower library. Also some
people may not like computers and prefer to read books. Also when the
weather is suitable it's easier to take a book out onto the porch than
it would be to take your computer. Yes you can take the laptop out if
you have one, but if you drop the book it doesn't become a 4 pound
$1,000 brick. You pick it up, find your place and continue reading.
Besides the Watchtower library has only the text from the magazine, not
the pictures that were included in the paper version.
Also chucking them in the dumpster can be a bad example for others. A
neighbor might see them when he takes his trash out and think "He's
always telling me this stuff's important. He must not think so since he
threw so much of it away."
Finally if you're bound and determined to throw a few hundred pounds of
spiritual food in the trash, you might want to consider removing the
post it note with your name on it that you left in one of the books.
