Families with younger children HAD to sit in the last 3 rows or they were counseled!

Disfellowshipped persons were told not to sit next to each other and talk because it "looks like they're unrepentant".

When I was a kid the attendants wouldn't let anyone go to the washroom if there were only a few minutes left in the meeting. That came to an end when the mother of a kid that was stopped got up and blasted the attendant in front of everyone. This was almost 30 years ago though.

For a time, even well behaved kids under 10 couldn't go to the bathroom unless accompanied by an adult.

There was a Hall in the 70s that refused Public Talk speakers from wearing anything but a white shirt. They even kept a supply of whites on hand if a visiting speaker showed up with a colored shirt! No word of a lie!

I was told that I would need to wear a coat, in order to be asked to give a prayer at the Book Study.

I did NOT begin wearing a coat to the Book Study, upon receiving this counsel.

If Jehovah doesn't hear the prayers of the coatless, then the terrorists have already won.

Seriously, though. I was always told I couldn't go on stage, or carry a microphone if my suitcoat wasn't buttoned.

We also had some doozy local needs parts. Our territory was near a casino, which had a gas station adjoining it. This station usually had gas for a few cents cheaper, so some of the brothers and sisters would get their gas there to save a little money. There was a local needs part that stated they shouldn't do this, because another witness, or even a worldly person who knew us might see us, and think we were coming out of the casino, and be stumbled. *sigh*

Rules about stumbling can be very interesting. If one elder body considers something a cause for stumbling, then you can get into trouble for violating the rule, whereas another might not care at all.
