rebel 8, I'm so sorry. It must have been empowering to put a stop to it yourself when you could. I can't see how else you managed to cope with life otherwise.
I've mentioned this before but it is worth mentioning again. I remember a speaker at a district convention using an example from his own life to show how to discipline babies starting from when they are 9 months old. He used the method on his own child.

Yes, she does know they are false and has pretty much become an agnostic. She swears it was not sexual, but I have some reservations on that. It's so weird.

I agree that it was more control and humilation, at least in my case. My mother needed to feel powerful and show me who was boss. Toss in a little humiliation (pre teens and teens are already self conscious (sp?) and viola.
All it did was made me more rebelous and more determined to get the hell out asap!

I believe the wt publications and/or talks said that punishment should be age-appropriate and spanking is probably not appropriate for teens. So when I was a teen I got age-appropriate punishments PLUS spanking.
We got spanking when we were little. Usually open palm on the butt when we were real young, then belts as we grew older. I remember my mom always threatening to pull down my pants in front of everyone and spank me, but I don't recall my pants pulled down (public or private). The threat and thought of embarassment got us to behave.
I do remember becoming a teen and they tried other punishments for a while. Then one day, they must have decided those weren't working and my dad got out the belt. He swung and I braced, but when it landed, it didn't hurt as much as it usually did. In a split second I realized "Wow! Their punishment is no longer a punishment, I'd better keep this to myself" and screamed out in pain anyway. The second one landed. Again, no big deal. Very endurable. After it was over, I rushed to tell my slightly younger brother the good news.
The belt didn't last for too much longer though. I think they caught on. Maybe we weren't acting hurt enough. Or I might have actually laughed once at what I was getting away with.
Okay, so I used to be spanked as well by my Father. My Mom would bust out the wooden spoon once and awhile, but for the most part it was my Pops.
I would sometimes receive bare bottom spankings, but my dad was pretty legit about it. You see it was after they caught me placing magazines (which sometimes were the watchtower mags ha ha ha) in my pants. I never felt there was anything weird going on because I knew my parents loved me first and foremost. Believe me I did some stuff that deserved a good spanking, I was never spanked for anything I did at the meetings, unless it was connected with me pulling another girls hair or something like that. However, some people, regardless of religion, are just straight wackos. Their parents possibly were wackos as well and normally it trickles down to the kids and so on.
The story that Rebel tells goes beyond anything that I know the JW's to ever be okay with. Her parents sound like they drive the twisted roads and I personally don't know anybody to have ever had that kind of treatment. Granted, I am from California, and people are a lot different here than from the south. Ya know.
I received a lot of spankings as a kid. In "hind" sight they were pretty dang pathetic. Grown up and looking back on them, they weren't right. It boils down to fear once again, like so many things in religion. "Genesis" spankings though, that is a really messed up concept. The terribly sad part here, is that the spankings were most likey a concept that were instilled in the parents, by someone else. The great news is that this girl stopped the cycle of abuse. Good on her. I wonder how her siblings dealt with it? Would ya know by chance Donny?

Not only heard but experienced it. I think of it as dishonoring and traumatic. But the term genenis spanking is new to me.

My older brother was beaten pretty severely using sticks, belts etc. I received the same treatment to a much lesser degree.
The one thing that sticks in my mind is that we were made to go and fetch the instrument we were to be beaten with.
