Should Jehovah’s Witnesses buy Amana appliances?

From Wiki (your online source of quasi-reliable information)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amana_Corporation

The Amana Corporation was founded by George Foerstner as Amana Refrigeration in 1934 in Middle Amana, Iowa to manufacture commercial walk-in coolers. The business was owned by the Amana Society .

    The Amana Society:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amana_Colonies#Important_people

The Amana Colonies are a group of settlements of GermanPietists in Iowa , USA , comprising seven villages. Calling themselves the Ebenezer Society or the Community of True Inspiration ,die Gemeinde der wahren Inspiration, they first settled in New York state near Buffalo in what is now the Town of West Seneca .

Also, should Jehovah’s Witnesses buy Oneida flatware?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oneida_Limited

Oneida Limited is one of the world's largest marketers of stainless steel flatware , and offers a range of tabletop products. Its operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom and Australia market stainless, silverplated, and sterling flatware products, china dinnerware, and crystal and glassware items [1] . The company originated in a utopian community, the Oneida Society , established in the mid-nineteenth century, and has had a strong reputation for quality since that time [2] .

    The Oneida Society

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oneida_Community

    The Oneida Community was a

utopian commune founded by John Humphrey Noyes in 1848 in Oneida, New York . The community believed that Jesus Christ had already returned in the year 70 , making it possible for them to bring about

Christ's millennial kingdom themselves, and be free of sin and perfect in this world, not just Heaven (a belief called Perfectionism ).

    The Oneida Community practiced

Communalism (in the sense of communal property and possessions), Complex Marriage , Male Continence, Mutual Criticism and Ascending Fellowship. There were smaller Noyesian communities in Wallingford, Connecticut ; Newark, New Jersey ; Putney, Vermont ; and Cambridge, Vermont . In Putney, the authorities attempted to have Noyes arrested for his unorthodox sexual practices. [1] The community's original 87 members grew to 172 by February 1850 , 208 by 1852 and 306 by 1878 . The branches were closed in 1854, except for the Wallingford branch, which operated until devastated by a tornado in 1878. The Oneida Community dissolved in 1881, and eventually became the giant silverware company Oneida Limited .

It would be wise for "True Christians" to avoid purchasing and owning any appliances or house wares that have such deep rooted history in false religion.

    Brings back memories.

I remember the lore that spread via gossip and a few hints in writing about being careful of our purchases.

Garage Sales and Thrift Shops topped the list (possible demon possession) and a few key brand names. I may have heard something about Amana but can't be sure now.

    Thanks for the post.

HEY!!!!! No dissing the Oneida Company! They have great products and it is a local business for me.

But in all seriousness, they were freaks back in the day. Their commune is studied in many a Sociology 101 textbook.

It is still kind of a mess from what I understand. Descendants aren't always able to track their lineage because women weren't always aware of who fathered their babies. The mansion is co-owned by the descendants. They have some sort of system to share it, like they get to use a room on certain days. That's what I hear.

Be careful what you eat for breakfast too.....

Kellogg's was founded as the Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Company on February 19, 1906, by Will Keith Kellogg as an outgrowth of his work with his brother John Harvey Kellogg at the Battle Creek Sanitarium following practices based on the Seventh-day Adventist Christian denomination. The company produced and marketed the hugely successful Kellogg's Toasted Corn Flakes and was renamed the Kellogg Company in 1922.

BTW ..There was/is a health food business locally, wholesale and retail, that was featured on tv. The directors attributed their success to the company being run on Christian lines and ethics and starting the day with prayer..The dubs of my acquaintance vowed never to shop there again.
