  In my lifetime Kennedy was killed, Ford could have been if the gun had fired and Reagan was shot. I guess it could happen.

  The more important question is, will an attempt be made on his life because of his skin color or because of his position? World leaders are always the target of extremists and terrorists but its usually because of their position. I've heard many people make comments about Obama's chances of being assisinated much greater than McCain's had he won.

  I'd like to believe that we've progressed further than that in the last 100 years. We elected a black man president...that's a good sign. But all the comments, joking or otherwise, about his chances of living 4 more years is a bit disturbing.

  They've already arrested somebody for plotting to kill Obama. Hopefully we've learned how to better protect our presidents. Like don't drive in an open-air motorcade. And we now have a lot better technology to help us. On the flipside, the potential assassins also have better technology.
  
  And we're forgetting about the attempt on GW Bush's life. The pretzel that almost accomplished the job.

  After Reagan was shot the level of security increase significantly. I think you will find a whole new level of security associated with Obama.

  Besides secret service and immediate family, he may have had his last human contact for many years.
