Awake! University drills "the circle of the earth" into its students heads. Having been a dub has nothing to do with it.

I am not a The View fan. Sorry, just havent found it interesting when I've seen it. Im not a big Sherry Shepherd fan. I dont dislike her, just dont care one way or the other about her.

She is not a fool though. She just didnt want to go where whoopi was leading the conversation. Was it the best way in the world to avoid the question? No! She made herself fodder for Youtube.

BTW, she did successfully avoid whoopis line of reasoning. Totally diverted attention from her question.

    That is all

    carry on.

Well, yeah. She diverted attention from her embarrassing ignorance about evolution by showing even more embarrassing ignorance about the shape of the earth. I really don't think it was the work of a Machivellian mind. It's like diverting attention from the fact that you're topless by pulling your pants down.

    Hey funkyd

Yes it was not the best way to handle the question. You are right, she probably did not want her ignorance of evolution to be aired all over the world. She could not take part in a meaningful discussion of it.

What I take a way from the clip is; "Yes Whoopi, I am an idiot. I dont believe in evolution so I obviously dont know if the earth is round or flat. Now lets just drop it."

She was self-deprecating in a sarcastic way. Im sure she was either caught off guard by the question and this was the best she could do under the circumstance, or she thought her sarcasim would be understood. Sherry: "*boo yaaa whoopi, in your face, in your face*"

Hmmm, maybe sarcasm is different in America. It looked to me like when she said "I don't know" that she genuinely didn't know, and when she said "I never thought about it" that she had genuinely never thought about it, and when she apparently became flustered and said ".how I'm going to take care of my family. The world, is the world flat has never entered into, like that has not been an important thing to me" that she was genuinely confused at having been asked an unexpected question that she didn't know how to answer.

It's just weird for a creationist to deliberately align herself with flat-earthers, even as a joke. Unless the original comment was sarcasm, too. I'm not familiar with her oeuvre so perhaps that sort of ultra-deadpan "sarcasm" is something she specialises in. Is the "dumb black Christian mother" thing a character she does? If it was meant to be funny I really really don't get it. And I don't understand why she didn't explain that it was all a joke - commitment to comedy?

The link at the end to her follow-up the next day is good. She says she was nervous and
her mind went blank. That's honest. She said that she knows that the world is round.
The problem is that she is in a public discussion forum.
If your mind goes blank and you don't explain yourself very well, then you might be in the
wrong job. She may have meant that Science has been able to demonstrate that the
world is not flat, but she hasn't personally proven that for herself.

I think we should remember that JWD is not a job. If someone explains themself poorly
or their mind goes blank on an answer, we shouldn't try to tear apart what they said. At the
same time, we might consider thinking before we just start typing.

When you are in a position of authority, you have even more accountability for your
statements than a bunch of ladies on a televized discussion forum. The JW's look
for people to study with them. They train their recruiters to go to catch-phrases that
will make them remember the doctrine whenever their mind could go blank. That way,
they rarely have episodes like this one that Sherry had. They can "argue" better than
the student because they don't depend on their thinking, just their training to recall
the implanted thoughts. JW's studying with someone have a position of authority and
are accountable for what they say. The GB and writers of the WT have an even
higher accountability for their words. They get caught in their mental shortcomings
again and again. I don't fully understand why when they have time to edit what they
write, but I suppose there is no getting around the goofy doctrine totally with slick
    words.

At least she's not peddling WT crap door-to-door anymore. Score one for us. I think.

She prolly should stick to feeding her kids. At least she can remember which end of the spoon goes in the mouth, i think.
