Did you lead a double life as a JW? Are you leading a double life still?

As a JW, alot of us lead double lives. I know I did.

In talking about our situations with my sister in law, realized that I now lead a double life as a "fader"!!! (We all are to some extent.)

My husband and I are "out" of the religion (my brother, sister in law and the kids too) but for the sake of family, they think we are still "in" although they know we are not active. There are things we'd like to do, but can't for fear of being DF'd etc. At this point, now that my brother and his family are out, there are not too many of my family that I would care about if they shunned me (I don't think my mother would). We're not so sure about my husband's family, how they would react.

We've actually been tallking about making a major move, start over where no one knows we ever were JW's, so we can feel free to do some of the things we'd like to without the fear of elder so and so spying on our every move!

I can now see why people DA themselves, just so they can be free of everything! I'm not quite there yet, but maybe someday. *sigh*

That's exactly the point that I wrestle with Bumble Bee! I had a post on here about that a couple months back. For me it will be done, but when it's the best time for the family.

No I didn't really lead a double life while a JW the only thing I was doing was reading or watching pornographic books, magazines and films. Otherwise I never got involved in adultery or fornication, or anything that was against JW rules.

I did - for many years. Sometimes it seems the only way. But it's not very satisfying.

I am and I feel it is getting harder all the time - having to be careful what I say in front of JW's and making excuses about missing meetings at the KH. I have a lot of impulses just to be honest and tell the truth about how I feel. Sometimes I get depressesed but am torn because of my family being still active JW's and knowing what will happen if I left outright.

How do I cope? I would be grateful for your comments please.

Why stop at double? Do I hear triple? Quadruple?

That way when you die at 100, you'll actually be 400!!

Kinda like dog years in reverse.

I couldn't help thinking of "The Stranger" by Billy Joel while reading your post.

"Well we all have a face,
    that we hide away forever.

Then we take them out and show ourselves,
    when everyone has gone.

Some are satin, some are steel,
Some are silk and some are leather,
They're the faces of The Stranger,
But we love to try them on."
