I've only read one book by him, but it's one of my favorites. In fact, due to this one book, he is one of my favorite authors, although probably for different reasons than most people choose him. The book? On Writing, his half memoir, half guide to writing. It's amazing.
Any Stephen King fans??

Rose Madder was the first SK book I read. I was working for a government attorney whose cause celebre was domestic violence, so it was a propos. Later I read Desperation which is set in my adopted home state. I enjoyed both books but have not read any others to date.

I've always thought that 'Salem's Lot was one of the absolutely BEST contemporary vampire/horror stories. Decent movie - but great book!!
