The world is full of brilliant pianists. Here are a few in the Jazz genre :

John Taylor - A pianist who knows that it is often the notes that you do not play that are more important than the ones that you do.

Keith Jarrett - Rude, onxoxious and demanding he is nevertheless placed in the top five jazz players of all time, and for very good reason.

Bill Evans - Has influenced more players than Dick Cheney has dollars. Creative mastermind.

Mcoy Tyner - Pianist of choice for John Coltrane. When you hear him you will understand why.

Enrico Pieranunzi - An astonishing Italian player who grips your heart from the first notes and never lets go.

My favorite at the moment :

The beautiful and incredibly talented Jessica Williams :

Her playing is full of wit and fire and wisdom, and were she a man she would have rightfully been a household word in the jazz world. Buy her music, you will not be disappointed.

    Terry,

Have you heard the Andre Previn / Doris Day collaboration "Duet" from the early 1960's? Both of them in spectacular form.

Another one that you will certainly enjoy is 'Playy Morricone' by Enrico Pieranunzi mentioned above.

Chopin was mentioned -- the best interpreter / performers of Chopin were Vladimir Horowitz and Earl Wild (whom I saw at Carnegie hall once!)

As far as pop music - going old school, how about Ferrante and Teicher (or even Liberace?)

And along with Elton John, here's one who deserves an honorable mention: Billy Joel

I'll fourth or fifth or sixth Tori Amos, I love the album Little Earthquake.

I like to sing that really dramatic one that goes "Mother the car is here..."

I dearly love piano, so thanks for the links to more pianists I'll check them out when I can. :)

Andy Pratt, Billy Joel, Steve Winwood,

Piano is not that expressive in this day and age. On the local scene it implies a lounge lizard and there arent that many lounges around now days. There seems to be mainly bars and honky tonks.
