I don't know any pianists besides Farkel and Terry. Both of them make me swoon. *sigh*

Have you heard the Andre Previn / Doris Day collaboration "Duet" from the early 1960's? Both of them in spectacular form.

You bet your sweet Bippy I have! I own the LP and have played it many times!

Just think, both of them are still around!

I share a great-great-great...great grandmother with Franz liszt. But my favorite is a guy named Willie Pickens. He plays frequently at the Green Mill in Chicago. His sister was a JW and he played at her funeral.

Listen to this Youtube of his playin and let me know what you think. He is a hidden wonder.

I suppose that I will start a digital hurricane if I were to suggest that performers like Elton John, Tori Amos, and Billy Joel are not actually pianists. They use the piano to accompany their singing and would never be able to make their way in life on their playing alone, even if they chose to, which they did not.

    Terry,

I am going out on a limb here are presupposing that you have not heard Jessica Williams play? If you have not, buy or download 'Blue Tuesday' as soon as possible. This woman is extraordinary and will change the way you view the piano and composing for the piano. Her phrasing is unique, and always surprising, but I think the most impressive thing is her ability to let her personality shine through with such grace and clarity that you forget the instrument and concentrate only on what she has to say.

Among numerous accolades, Brubeck is qoted as saying that she is one of the best pianists that he has ever heard, and he is not wrong.

I always thought Doris day a very underrated singer. Her big failing imho was to sing anything that was thrown at her on a musical sheet without much discretion.

On the "Duet" album, the choice of songs were perfect and the piano perfect, and will imho remain in the top ten singer/pianist music combinations, up there with the Bill Evans and Tony Bennett offering in the early 70's.
