Terry, are you talking about God? Or organized religion?

    A dark bedroom.

Outside: the wind. Scratching branches on the window pane.

Inside a thump in your closet. Slithering shadows.

What is it? What was it?

Every child has had this moment.

    Here is where it begins.

What have you been told? What sort of world is it you inhabit?

Are their monsters in your world? If there are, then; there is a monster in that dark closet.

If your world contains no monsters it is only the wind and the shadows.

"God" is the monster in the closet if your parents put him there.

Religion is pulling the covers over your head.

Do you mean to say: No God, No War?

There will always be War! With or without God.

    It begins with fear.

The first time we see and hear those awful words: "FEAR GOD" we are doomed.

It is only ourselves pretending like Norman Bates dressed in his mother's clothing.

Terry: You would enjoy this book, "Jesus and Yahweh: The Names Divine" by Harold Bloom, a professor and noted literary critic.

He makes the point that Yahweh or Jehovah has either gone away or committed suicide and been replaced by Christendom's God the Father, a totally different personality. He also shows the bible presents two different versions of Jesus Christ, one of which is the Socratic philosopher you refer to. Fascinating read.

I love Harold Bloom. I have read the book.

I'm sure I've stolen many of his ideas :)

The cool thing about God: His patience with our limited intellect, level of perception, our over abundunce of self awareness in this cosmos, .....all that restricts and blurrs.

Give me a "popped" God over a cosmos guided by emptiness and guess, anytime.

    Jesus: I believe the Story.

That makes me a gulible idiot, I reckon. It is a role and position I, readily, will submit to.

Sorta like Apostate: a true Badge of Honor.

Keep posting: you cause people to think and chanllange.

    Yours in this Journey,

When you have a pocket you have a place to put what you want to carry around; any old sort of thing.

Often we find people with pockets have many such things. All sorts. Too many things.

But, people without pockets only carry what they absolutely need. Wanting goes.

When you have a "god pocket" you'll stuff it full.

Try on a pair of pants without those pockets and life might have a better fit.

    Just a thought.

So if there is no God.....Humans have no one to blame but themselves for all the pain and suffering....Is that what we have evolved into and the question is what is worse....Atheist can now stop pointing fingers at God for their sorrows? Evolution is no better than God?

Something went wrong in the brain process of evolution in humans?

God is our Alibi when we do harm. God and Devil. We are drunk with them.

    Anybody but us.

Believing or not believing; neither makes us a better or worse person.

Being is what is at the core of behavior.

Who are we? What are we? Why are we?

Each of us stands in the buffet line of ideas, concepts, philosophies and religions.

We slide our tray along and pick and choose.

Why do we heap one on our plate and leave the rest?

It is our SELF that contains the appetite.

Very few people give a thought to what a SELF is!

The genes tell the story before the story is told.

A dog chases a cat. Is it the dog's religious beliefs that makes him so intolerant of felines?

    No.

What we ARE is there already. It is what we are that gives us our certainty.

If we see God as this or that, then; we automatically don't see God as the other.

The first order of business in belief is turning away the non-belief.

That is the edge of a terrible swift sword.

The blood runs very red indeed.

Great thread and great comments throughout!

I have thought alot about what it would be like without monsters being put in my closet. Is it better to have been taught that and later realize the folly of it? I think so.
